Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Project-dependent, Poor leadership

    Pros

Eventbrite is currently attempting to grow it's business (of course). Towards that end, it's moving more and more towards cloud-based architecture on AWS (lambdas, sqs, dynamo, etc.). If you're on a team working on this technology, it's a great place to gain some valuable experience. You'll work with cutting edge tools and get to build from scratch. Also, the pay is pretty good, but not absolute top tier. Benefits are pretty solid--they still offer a PPO at a reasonable price. They offer unlimited time off--they don't even track it anywhere. As for the culture, it's very inclusive, if that's important to you.

    Cons

If you're not on one of the teams working with the cloud, you'll be working with legacy Python (2.7) with no hope of upgrading anytime soon. Also, the dev workflow is painfully slow and horrible to work with. As for the culture, if you are looking for an organization that aligns with religious beliefs, this is absolutely not the culture for you. While it's possible to be religious and work here (I am and I do), Eventbrite has an ideology that opposes religion and they push that ideology on its employees through their communication and their community groups. They are NOT a remote-first company--they love their in-person gatherings. However, they just shut down the Nashville office. There's a lot of uncertainty about what that means for the large contingency in Nashville. Finally, the senior leadership and above are quite awful. What makes them bad? Lack of transparency, poor communication, capricious decisions, and difficulty with managing large projects. For example, during this last layoff (Feb 2023), they had a company-wide meeting informing us that there would be layoffs, but totally misdirected us on who was being let go. Then, they blocked the largest slack channels so we couldn't talk about this! Their lack of transparency is the worst I've seen. Also, they make plans for moving critical services to the cloud, but expect them to be implemented quickly, rather than correctly. (Lack of managing larger projects.) Finally, they make capricious decisions that seem to make no sense. Decisions ranging from the direction of the product and what gets work to decisions on who get laid off and who does not.

Finally a Company where employees mental health is a priority

    Feb 16, 2023 - Customer Success

    Pros

The most competitive benefits package out there. Eventbrite is a great company because they prioritize their employees before their customers. Which should always be the case. Leadership is truly here to empower all and make sure everyone is able to succeed within their roles but also personally. I could not brag enough on how proud I am to be part of such an amazing company.

    Cons

It would be nice to have more culture groups available to the POC that don't fit in with the current group. Though Black & Brite is an amazing group that is inclusive to all :)

Strategy-Less Organization That Thinks It Has One

    Feb 14, 2023 - Anonymous Employee
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Benefits - one paid Friday off per month Competitive pay - equity vesting is particularly competitive

    Cons

The organization, particularly its executive leadership, is in denial about having a strategy when said strategy is nothing but high-level philosophical fluff. The lack of a clear strategy results in functions within the org having conflicting priorities. Executive leadership don't take the time to understand their customers and come up with ideas that are not grounded in what is best for the business. A lot of time is spent making decks and "communicating" to such executives, leaving not a lot of time for actual work to be done. Most of the best Product leaders have left the company as a result. Those who excel here are exceptionally gifted at story-telling, often at the expense of real, rigorous strategic thought. There is also a level of favoritism as mentioned by other reviews that renders people of a certain demographic and personality to do better than others. Those who are more thoughtful, introverted, and in minority groups - beware when joining this company. There are inherent biases that will make working here more difficult, unless you come from a Big Tech company such as Google, Amazon (executives value these brands).
