I worked at Evergreen Investments full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong culture and solid working environment.

    Cons

Wells Fargo killed the company and pulled most assets into its own fund families.

I worked at Evergreen Investments (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very interesting issue areas we were allowed to tackle; lots of exposure to the goings-on of Congress

    Cons

Lack of effective leadership; office politics get VERY real VERY quickly with such a small workforce

    Pros

Owned by Wachovia, which was bought by Wells Fargo.

    Cons

Completely different culture after the purchase of Wells Fargo. Senior management left as soon as the deal was done leaving employees to fend for themselves.

    Advice to Management

Sorry you had to run what was once a sound company into the ground.

    Pros

Compensation was good as were the benefits. The products in general were good (with a few exceptions).

    Cons

Became a very political place even before they were taken over and more so after. It's not what you know but who or how much you play the game that will keep you employed. Ultimately ethics went out the window.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention and do not believe you are above the fray. You are becoming a firm known for only hiring the young and subservient and who care little to nothing about the client.

    Pros

Great culture and respect for employees. Treat contractors like employees. Talented senior management. Interesting work. Looked forward to going to work everyday. People are warm, smart and willing to lend a hand. Can't say enough good things about it.

    Cons

Sometimes management decisions need too much team consensus and this can slow down when change management projects in a timely manner. Projects are a little slow moving but effective versus some other environments where haste makes waste. Sometimes too many people are involved in simple tasks.

    Advice to Management

Skinny down the project involvement and allow mid-level management to make decisions before callig in the senior level management.

    Pros

Evergreen Investments has a competitive and overall good benefits package, generous 401k match and ample insurance choices. The culture of the company varies greatly between location and group.

    Cons

There is very low employee morale, at times it feels like working in a morgue. The actual products (the funds) are sub par and expensive which makes it difficult to "feel good about what you do." If I as an employee would not invest in the vast majority of their offerings, it makes it difficult to try to sell or market them to potential customers.

The organization only pays for certifications for select people and groups, I was able to go to trainings but the company would not pay for the actual license or certification which I found very frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Too many mid to senior level managers and not enough people producing actual work.

    Pros

Salery, time off and drinking at work. Working with the investment professionals has to be the most satisfying part of my job. Having access to people who's job it is to invest is great for me learing about investments.

    Cons

Cheif Technology Officer has no idea what he should be doing. Vice President of Investment Technology has no expereince and hires unimpressive people. Manager of Market Data is unexperienced and is unethical. General lack of professionals, knowledge and people management skills. Gift taking from vendors hurts the share holders. Watching how money is managed and how many poor decisions are made that affect the shareholders.

    Advice to Management

Stop telling lies. Stop taking gifts from vendors.

    Cons

Lack of upside mobility, senior guys are entrenched and will never leave. Comp is below street somewhat.

    Advice to Management

Management should be more generous with employees.
