    Pros

An interesting array of client projects for people approaching Exa from the directions of software engineering, physics or mechanical engineering. The variety and profile of clients the company's unique place in the automotive and heavy transportation industries can attract is very unique. The working environment is relaxed yet results focused.

    Cons

It is possible to be at an entry level engineering position for some years. This simply means that an engineer must differentiate him/herself in some way by contributing to the products. This is really not so much a con as a pro, because it means that the managers have all themselves made some fundamental contribution to PowerFLOW or related products to earn their place in the management chain.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work. I look forward to watching the company grow, even just as a former employee.

I have been working at Exa Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn; the experts in aerodynamics; very high technical competence; close customer collaborations; decent benefits

    Cons

Very sales and revenue driven culture ; pay scales slightly lower compared to rest of the tech industry; business model focused on quarterly results

    Advice to Management

Shift the business model away from quarterly revenue results ; In order to foster a tech industry culture one needs to begin paying and providing benefits akin to the tech industry

I have been working at Exa Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to work with industry leaders.
    Exposure to real world problems
    Sometimes flexible schedule

    Cons

    Too many directors and managers
    No real career path provided
    Sales dominant culture
Salaries are low compared Exa's customers
HR department way too small for the size of the company

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the true value of simulation software rather than spending time and resources on creating non usable tools for geometry preparation.

I have been working at Exa Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work life balance
    Bagel on Fridays

    Cons

    Pretty much everything else
This company's middle layer is grown too fat now and keeps control of pretty much everything...from information flow to freedom to innovate. Hungry minds or fresh ideas have no place here.

    Advice to Management

Time to hire CTO and bring uniform vision or hope that Dassault will bring some.

I worked at Exa Corporation full-time

    Pros

At the start, breakthrough technology with potential to be a real game changer
Some truly talented technical members with outstanding skills and dedication
Diverse cultures and global presence despite the size of the company
Launching pad for junior engineers who wish to move on to auto companies
Chance to join management rank for those find it difficult in OEM's

    Cons

Once great company culture, degraded after going public with sole focus on revenue
Out-balanced influences from sales on strategic decisions
Few individuals with power controlling every matter in a way like feudal system
Political environment that works better for talkers than doers
Top-heavy company structure with limited potential for promotion

    Advice to Management

The company ran its course --- this week the company was sold.
History will tell it is an example of leadership deficiency. RIP to EXA's spirit.

    Pros

You get to learn a lot about CFD, Especially about "non-traditional" CFD. It's the best, and you get paid to sell that.

    Cons

    What's the story??

No cons here. This data cannot be right. Please run more simulations and... Get it right this time.

    Advice to Management

"Heads I win, tails you lose" is a game that only fools play. It's amazing how well smoke-and-mirrors work on clients and employees alike. Gotta give kudos when it's deserved.

Now get to work! Employee stock options are not incentives if the strike price is higher than the current price! Get it done, the shareholders demand it!
