I have been working at Exactech full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Family company, they tend to avoid laying people off at all cost. There is access to higher ups which can provide visibility career progression

    Cons

    Does not have a clear career path. Is not a great company for development unless the person knows where they want to be and engages higher ups to reach goals;

I have been working at Exactech full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Great atmosphere. Everyone is very easy to work with.
-Management is very understanding about personal conflicts.
-As a smaller company, your are exposed to broader projects and responsibilities.

    Cons

-Inexperienced professionals and management. As a new graduate, there is little direction for professional growth. There are a select few engineers where that understand engineering concepts.
-Very limited funding for innovation. Unless the technology has been used for a decade with proven clinical success by other orthopedic companies, Exactech will not invest resources in it.

    Advice to Management

-Invest in professional growth and training of subordinates.
-Consider letting go out-of-date management, managers that do not use fundamental engineering concepts or lean engineering methods that Exactech has been pressing, costing the company time and money.

I have been working at Exactech full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the pros of this company:
This company is made up of some excellent people. A pleasure to work for a company that stands behind the values they profess. If you work hard and produce results, you will succeed at Exactech.

    Cons

Some of the cons of this company:
The Gainesville facility is located far from the beach. Sometimes the company management can be a bit conservative. Paid maternity/paternity leave is nonexistent.

    Advice to Management

Some of the advice that I would support would be to allow even more time off for parents. I would think that the management could support paid leave for new parents.

I worked at Exactech full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great and Trusted Senior management, based in Sunshine State of Florida with no State Income Tax, great opportunities for training and growth if you want it, state of the art multi-axis CNC machining centers; very good benefits including the Paid Time Off policy. I feel compensation above normal for Southeast region

    Cons

Somewhat remote location, not easy to get to, limiting the recruiting of skilled machinists, local Gainesville government not very manufacturing friendly

    Advice to Management

Maybe think about moving manufacturing into one building and closer to higher population of skilled labor

    Pros

Mid size company with a promising future. New markets creating more opportunity. Great products with a successful lineage.

    Cons

Communication between departments is very poor. Logistics is the biggest issue currently. Executive management and marketing doesn't have sales experience or communicate with sales reps.

    Advice to Management

Get out in the field and experience the adversity. Get a better understanding of the obstacles being faced by reps. Communication and logistics is not only losing money for the company in potential sales but also loss of products. Regional Sales Managers are not responsible and lack the necessary skills to be organized and effecient. How can you have Sales Managers who do not know how to use email?

    I worked at Exactech full-time

    Pros

People, salary and benefits make this a good company to work for. The facility is kept very clean and they are very much involved in the community

    Cons

Isolation is a problem. So many different buildings and to much walking back and forth. I would consider Lean manufacturing to eliminate waste

    Advice to Management

Please listen to your staff. Some of them have great ideas that can really improve are day to day tasks. Some Mgrs have favorites and it does not go unnoticed

    I worked at Exactech full-time

    Pros

Most of the people are friendly.

    Cons

Advancement within the company is very political. Little or no promotion in some departments or teams, while other departments are constantly promoting within. It's all about who you work for. If you report directly to and impress an executive member of the good old boy management then you just jumped on the fast track to success. Otherwise, be satisfied where you are and don't rock the boat.
