I have been working at Excela Health full-time

    Pros

For the most part they are nice to work for. HR staff is really nice and working here is like having a close knit family

    Cons

I feel like a lot of the items used are dated. We use programs from decades ago.

    Advice to Management

Update, try to make things easier for employees and things will go smoother for patients

I have been working at Excela Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This job is fast paced. I don't have to take my work home with me. Benefits are good. Decent pay for a first time job

    Cons

No pension. Short staffed in what seems like every department. The work can be overwhelming. Must take turns with holidays and weekends

    Advice to Management

There are too many new initiatives that take place all at one time. It throws off caseloads and leads to a lot of confusion across many departments.

I worked at Excela Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security. (They keep bad employees too). There are some good co-workers. Christmas bonus=free meal in the cafeteria. Almost every year a 2% raise if you jump through all the hoops.

    Cons

1.Those bad employees that get to stay and even get better treatment than those who follow policy and are always going above and beyond.
    2. Unstable schedule. One day you start at 4am the next day could be 930am and then a midnight. ( The exception, those bad employees)
    3. They do not count your minor child (who lives with you) being admitted to a hospital as an excusable absence. Even if it's the ICU Ridiculous
    4. It's always changing. Just when you get the new procedures down they change them. Same goes for Human Resource policy. We jokingly called these the change of the day. Rightfully so since there is probably 250 changes a year. (I wish I where joking) These changes range from testing requirements to 403 retirement matching.

    Advice to Management

For the love of God stop rewarding bad behavior. It leads to a TOXIC work environment. You have great workers who are constantly getting beaten down while you reward the bad ones with whatever they want just so they'll stay.
Also remember where you came from. You are NOT UPMC OR AGHS. So stop chasing their trends. Get back to being community hospitals. After seeing thousands of patients I can tell you that's what they want. And remember they are just that, patients not customers.

I have been working at Excela Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good health benefits and PTO time.

    Cons

Administration does nothing to value their employees. Employees from all departments are leaving in droves. Nurses hate it here. They are always understaffed and hire new nurses just a few dollars less than what senior nurses make. Admin too focused on marketing instead of staffing. All the administrators are rejects from other health systems. Leadership is absolutely terrible. They focus on too many LEAN projects and have meetings for meetings and committees for other committees. You only get promoted if you know someone.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. Treat them well and they will work harder for you. Offer competitive salaries. Work with people's schedule.

    Pros

Close to home. Pay is competitive.

    Cons

Requiring new hires to obtain BSN and education reimbursement is inadequate.

    Advice to Management

    Respect experience.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Latrobe, PA

    Pros

You learn a lot and get raises every year as long as you do your job. Training is offered also

    Cons

The pay is low to start and the schedules are hard to manage your life around but that's with any hospital setting.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to try to keep the hospital small and not to grow too large and over extend and to make sure you always reward good employees

    Cons
