Company has potential but needs new leadership across the board

    Pros

Nice clean/modern office Good co workers (in my experience) Work from home available, but not everyday Work life balance will be normal, they do have some version of "flex time" Diversity and inclusivity program BCBS is nationally recognized It is a "safe" choice. I saw people who have worked at Excellus for 20+ years. So if you really like it there is an opportunity to be a "lifer" or just transition to a competitor, where the company structures are similar and your experience will align.

    Cons

Executive leadership has a problem with communication and change, gas lighting There is favoritism The pay sucks compared to competitors - I would shop around first Almost every job in an insurance company is learnable as long as you are skilled with a computer, but you will find Excellus wanting X years of specific experience for basic jobs. With that, it can also be hard to advance in the company (based on who you know) Learned more in 2 months at my new job, than I did during my entire time there. That says a lot about its focus on employee growth

Excellus BCBS Rochester - Project Manager

    Pros

Nice building. Good, smart people who wamt to make a difference in a political company culture. Cafeteria is good. Good work/life Balance. People tend to leave before 5pm and by 5:10pm the building is empty.

    Cons

They are trying to change the fear driven, cya culture that was instituted by the previous CEO. Unfortunately, they are not quite there yet. The ”lifetime way” sounds great on paper, but teamwork and accountability are not found as often as one would hope. Parking is expensive and the waiting list for reduced cost monthly parking is 6-12 months.

The project management career field is on a steady march to a mainly administrative function.

    Excellus Health Plan

Jun 13, 2010 - Project Manager in Rochester, NY
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Able to contribute to a better community and economy.

    Cons

Upper management not aligned to a common strategy -- each Exec is working for the betterment of their division; not the company as a whole. Sr. Execs have outdated theories on employee motivation.
