Once a great place to work, now a steady decline
Mar 28, 2023 - Anonymous Employee in Albany, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The benefits, especially time off, were really good and most people outside of higher leadership positions were and still are great! They both care about their fellow coworkers, the mission, and the students.
Cons
After 2 years of fully remote they insisted on returning to the office. It led to an exodus and a lot of unhappy people. The leadership does not believe that people can collaborate or form relationships online. In other words they don't believe in the business model. Pay stagnated bad over the years. Especially if your job wasn't directly related to academia. Leadership felt that because all higher ed was struggling everyone, even IT and finance people, were easily replaceable. Yet critical roles were left unfilled for months and months when people left.

Good coworkers Punch in punch out mentality for lower levels is fine Lower stress at lower levels

Pros
Great coworkers. I've had good managers. Decent benefits.
Cons
I'm constantly worried if I will have a job. I haven't had merit raise in several years. A few COLA. But increase in pay is not guaranteed each year.
