    Pros

Solid company committed to high quality product and services. Laser focused on what they are doing. Very respectful of staff and work balance. Great impressive office and location, fun place for "go getters". Any negative reviews I read on this website don't reflect my experience with this company. Hands down 5 stars

    Cons

Very demanding customer environment which requires extremely reliable products. Company values bullet proof products and people who can create them.

    Advice to Management

I really can't say anything bad about the management, I have worked for other companies in this industry and its by far best management I have worked with. Keep up with the good work.

    Pros

As the name indicates it's an innovative place. There are new ideas and directions all the time. The owner is very forward thinking and it is exciting to try and keep up.

    Cons

Many don't handle the fast pace or quick changes well. It's is an extremely agile environment. You have to be able to quickly put down what you are working on and move full force in another direction.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to those not moving as fast as you. They tend to see things that you rush by.

    Pros

Company offered flexible hours. Great tools available to developers. There was always easy access to management when you needed help with something.

    Cons

Sometimes a struggle between work and life balance. I know a few employees who pulled all-nighters on more than one occasion.

    Advice to Management

The office is clean and neat, but at times it feels dull and boring. The company almost lacks a culture and it is difficult to find a fit.

    Pros

    - Casual dress allowed at all times.
    - Flex time.
    - Good, up-to-date computer equipment.
    - Nice chairs, mostly Aeron.
    - Plenty of parking available.

    Cons

    - Extremely poor communication.
    - Hostile work environment.
    - Senior management has little or no respect for employees.
    - Terrible benefits.
    - Lack of any process or best practices causes a chaotic work environment.
    - CEO acts as if he is a schizophrenic, randomly changing business direction monthly.

    Advice to Management

    - Communicate with your employees. It's hard to get anywhere when everyone is running in a different direction.
    - Stop treating people like chattel.
    - Find someone you trust to run the business and retire.

    Pros

The culture is the best culture of any company I've ever worked for (and I've worked for many - unfortunately). While each department seems to have different levels of job satisfaction and upward mobility, a large marjority of people would say that they like it here. I feel very fortunate to work for a company that continues to treat it's employees well, given the current economic conditions.

Their products are highly competitive in the home automation and boardroom automation market -- and seem to have traction enough for the long hall. I am look forward to working for Exceptional Innovation for many years.

    Cons

Upward mobility can be a slow process, mainly because the company is so small. But it is definitely available to those who are ready step up to the challenge of leadership.

Small companies can be bought and sold quickly - which is no fault of Exceptional Innovation. At EI, you never know how secure your job really is. But this concern is true for all small companies. If you like working for a small company, you'll have to assume some risk.

Hours can sometimes be long, especially during product releases. But compared to other software companies, EI is better than most.

    Advice to Management

    Keep innovating.
Don't sell, go IPO - and give your folks an ESOP.
Tighten up internal processes a little - but don't become a beuracracy - which can spell a slow, painful, disaster in the fast world of tech.
Benefits are pretty good, but could be improved a little.

I worked at Exceptional Innovation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Highly engaged owner, with substantial capital resources and strong drive within the business. Very talented staff at multiple levels, all seem dedicated to success. Competitive pay, and reasonable expectations for performance.

    Cons

Highly engaged owner, with "shiny ball" problem of shifting focus all the time. Tends to direct sales and development to only go after the really big fish (often with low chance of success), while ignoring many smaller fish with much higher chances of success.

    Advice to Management

Allow your sales team to help direct development direction, because they are closest to the customers who might want to buy something.

    Cons

Invisible to many but well known by those important. Growth and control -- controlled by visionary not the management collective

    Advice to Management

You have exceptional talent in your organization-- let them help manage

    Pros

Very nice HQ, great marketing, innovative home automation product

    Cons

Entered market a a very bad time, dropped all direct customers and opted for a single point of distribution. This proved disasterous. In addition, the entire platform was build around Windows Vista, and not well accepted by potential customers. Products were incredibly expensive. When they worked (which wasn't often) they worked great.

    Advice to Management

Consider paying your field people a decent and living salary. When you let people go on a Wednesday, at least have the decency to pay them until the end of the week.
