    Pros

They are very flexible with hours, the 7.5 hour work day is also nice. If you are a career employee you cannot beat the retirement - pension and healthcare. You really can find many competant employees that are experts in their field.

    Cons

It is a stereotypical bureaucracy. Much of the work is repetitive. Duplication is common. You do not feel as though you are working towards a goal such as a profit margin or net income amount. A lot of the work seems like maintenance of the giant organization.

    Advice to Management

Do away with the pension benefits and pay competitive salaries to employees. Senior management positions pay 3-4 times as much in the private sector. Make state wages similar and get rid of SERS.
