I worked at Exelon Energy (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits (Pension, 401K), People/Culture, Salary, Bonus, Full Medical, Dental, ADD&D, Life, Short Term and Long Term

    Cons

Storm duty is an absolute absurdity. Forcing employees to work on call during a two week rotation every 6 weeks for no additional compensation. Keep in mind that employees are required to work during holidays, evenings and weekends too. Employee are civilians, not military service men and women that signed up with the understanding that they will be away from their families. Your employees have lives and family. They are Not indentured servants that work a second job for free that has nothing to do with their primary job function. The on-call storm rotation was not thoroughly explained during hiring/on-boarding process neither. The travel percentage does tax your body and work/life balance as well. Management states that resources are "at complement" when in reality management is not in the trenches to see how the vast amount of windshield time affects work/life balance and time in the office to get the job done. Management would rather pocket the bonus money and not hire more FTE's to adequately cover multiple major Utility markets. If management appropriately addressed the storm rotation and travel percentage, this would have been the greatest company to work for. You cannot enjoy the benefits if you have no time to yourself, eat life crap working late and pack on the pounds due to being on the road and in the air. The employee will be dead before they can retire and use the 401k and pension. Properly rested employees yield higher quality work.

    Advice to Management

Hire a separate pool of talent to handle the storm duty rotation job. Forcing employees to work two jobs for one paycheck is ridiculous. Employees have spouses and children.
