I worked at Exelon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good compensation. Everybody comes together to work through plant outages.

    Cons

Horrible top-down management model. All decisions come directly from the top, resulting in middle management and individual contributors being too frightened to make decisions or suggestions. Promotions within Exelon is very heavily based on the "good ole boy club", if you are not in it, it is very hard to be promoted.

Work life balance at Exelon is horrible, and the best employees are pushed to the breaking point. This results in no retention of strong intellectual employees. Other Nuclear utilities offer better pay, and care much more about their employees.

    Advice to Management

Rather than simply saying that Exelon is focused on building and retaining talent for the future, stop the dog-and-pony show and actually do it. Most of the executive team and directors need training on how to manage people and hold lazy people accountable.

I have been working at Exelon full-time

    Pros

Great wages and compensation for union employees.

    Cons

Poor Communication With Management. Lack of Planning Hurts Operational Tempo.

    Advice to Management

There is poor communication between the management level and technician level staff. Planning for jobs seems to be hit or miss at times. The wages are great and overtime compensation is tough to beat. Morale has been at a low point lately with growing concern over the future of nuclear plants in the area.

I have been working at Exelon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Exelon is a fortune 100 company offering an absolutely Awesome culture, best and most comprehensive benefits. I can honestly say I love my job, and our workgroup all the way from our VP down thru the Directors, Managers, Supervisor and our workgroup

If you want a career where you are appreciated, valued and want to make a difference... Exelon is the place for you. My only regret is that I didn't' jump from my former employer and go to Exelon sooner!

The workplace is great, fun people encouraging work life balance. Leadership not only listens to employees they actively solicited input, support creativity, nurture innovation, career development and advancement. Employees are easy to work with and very talented. Teamwork and collaboration drive our success. Everyone is passionate, down to earth

Exelon is community focused, encourages and actively enables employees to give back to our communities and puts its money where it mouth is. As employees volunteer time and money Exelon gives additional bonuses to that company.

Finally, the on-boarding is very comprehensive and implemented well! Everything from HR thru your new job duties, goals, roles, responsibilities, procedures, and work flow are documented, easy to follow and easy to find. Exelon has an awesome company and employee portal!

    Cons

(While this may be a con for the employee... it is a big pro for our customers)
Expect occasional long hours and an emergency response role. Work load and hours can be very demanding at times but there are opportunities for work life balance.

We often have meetings and work thru lunch, however our management team appreciates our hard work and extra efforts by providing great meals

I work in downtown Philadelphia. And I dreaded considering a long commute into the city. It was the primary reason I didn't consider an Exelon career sooner. Now that I have been working here for just under a year. I have come to appreciate the flexibility our management team provides. They offer state of the are video conferencing tools and are very understanding and supportive with flexible schedules and reporting locations.

I can honestly say the pros far out weigh the cons!

    Advice to Management

Continue the great work already being done. A sincere thank you to our leadership... I know you are listening. You many want to think about a program to encourage employees to help recruit other employees from their previous work life. It is easy to sell the benefits of working for Exelon and it might help spark additional innovation

I have been working at Exelon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If you are a diverse candidate, you will absolutely get an opportunity to interview and have promotaional opportunities that likely would not be there otherwise if you are an existing exiting employee. The pay is good but it comes with many frustrations and a lot of work.

    Cons

For a company so large, it is remarkable how favoritism is so prevelant at the executive level. Finance seems particularly poor in this area, and although there are employee surveys that have historically shown this to be an issue, it goes completely unaddressed. This makes excelling beyond a mid level management level beyond the reach of the substantial majority.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the employee survey and actually hold heads of groups accountable in a meaningful way. It really gets old filling out the same type of surveys over the years and see the same types of poor responses and absolutley no action taken by VP levels and above. It's as if we are just going through the motions, year after year.

I have been working at Exelon (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits (not pay), benefits (not pay), benefits (not pay. Most of my supervisors were good people. The people that work with you are great.

    Cons

Pay, promotions. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to be promoted in this company without having your head up someone's rear end. Your work ethic and performance has nothing whatsoever to do with it. They also sometime hire the worst people.

    Advice to Management

Exelon does not do nearly enough to keep their good employees, yet the worst of the worst get promoted to manager and principal positions because of who they know. It's embarrassing.

    Cons

Too much focus on diversity. company seems more geared to younger people. Human Resource Dept. not very helpful. Headquarters located in Chicago so working in Baltimore, you have deal with time zone issues when calling for help.
