I worked at Expedia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Strong supervision from department manager.

    Cons

Too much of being micromanaged. My manager directed me to write up employees but then would go behind my back to these same employees and claim I was wrong to have done it. I feel this caused the line staff to lose faith in my fairness.

    Advice to Management

    Be consistent with your policies!

I worked at Expedia full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

when I started with Expedia, it was a small company that had a more family style culture. But with all the recent acquisitions, it feels like just another big company. Now, Market Management is so large and with reorganisation happening across the globe, many people are getting laid off or transferred.
Pros: Work/Life balance, Insurance programme, Fitness reimbursement, Travel voucher, employee referral travel certificates, free sodas, and many happy hours.

    Cons

Growth was too much and too fast as the company is loosing it's family identity and seems to be looking at the bottom line more than employee culture 5+ years ago.

    Advice to Management

Reduce hiring and go back to the lean and mean team you used to be. Stop trying to be Booking.com as the Expedia employees are starting to feel like the treatment is not unique anymore.

I have been working at Expedia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of employee perks. Strong benefits. Decent work/life balance.

    Cons

Especially in an engineering role, it's far better to work under a "brand" or other profit center. While the pressure may be a bit higher, you will get more funding sooner for improvements and technical leadership are more likely to test ideas.

This is considerably less true within IT, eCP and other shared services.

    Advice to Management

For over 5 years I've witnessed the transition from 50/50 tech company/travel company, to 30% tech and 70% travel. I get it, the tech is a means to an end goal of selling travel. Though with some major technology boulders to overcome, you need a more prescription strategy than "make sure it scales".

    Pros

salary and benefits are great. management, from low to highest levels, is very approachable and happy to get feedbacks from employees. opportunities to be involved in projects with other departments that make you better understand the overall picture.

    Cons

talent acquisition strategy seems to be focused only on recruiting young people, just graduated and with zero opportunities to negotiate their salary. no way to jump from a support role to a commercial one.

    Advice to Management

management should work on a closer integration between support and sales and find ways to make them cooperate.
