I have been working at Expeditors full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people. The friendly people here are what kept me sane! I've also noticed that people seem to be happier in other departments, so maybe it's only the brokerage department that's an understaffed mess.

    Cons

No work-life balance, managers don't communicate well with those working under them, obvious favoritism between branch manager and particular employees, brokerage teams are understaffed and managers don't care to staff more people.

    Advice to Management

Learn to work and communicate with your teams better. Hire more people for your teams so people don't have to slave away in the office well past 5 pm. People have families and lives outside of work, they can't be in the office for 12 hours a day. If they're scheduled 8 am to 5 pm, it's ridiculous that people are staying WELL past 5 and into the wee hours of the evening and sometimes even night. And let's not forget the amount of times people have to come in on the weekends because their team's workload was far too much to take on during the week.

    Pros

Very stable & financially solid worldwide company

    Cons

Overall compensation packages from entry positions to middle management positions & employees are lower than current market levels. Conversely overall compensation packages for top management positions & employees are considerably higher than current market levels.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to seriously consider to increase overall compensation packages from entry positions to middle management positions if they want to retain valuable, bright, knowledgeable, & experienced employees.

I have been working at Expeditors (More than a year)

    Pros

Unless serious infractions occur, stability will surely follow. There are many employees that have stayed through the recession. Health insurance is included for all employees.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive for the area. The turnover rate is quite high with many employees quitting and getting equivalent jobs with 15k higher pay.

    Advice to Management

Match the market salaries or watch as all the new hires with promise leave for higher pay and rightfully so. At the end of the day it's not humanitarian work, it's all for the pay and the benefits.

    Pros

Benefits are decent. The longer you work for the company, the longer the vacation.

    Cons

Employees are extremely over worked with minimum compensation. Pay is very low. Actually I must say EXTREMELY low. Employee turn over rate is very high.

    Advice to Management

Pay your hardworking employees more before they leave.

    Pros

    Stable and very good leadership

    Cons

work you to the bone, need to be at a certain level to make good money

    Advice to Management

Stop the lies about the people being their biggest commodity. In truth everyone in "operations" is viewed as a expendable. Stop promoting people based on who sucks up the most.

I worked at Expeditors full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The stellar pro for Expeditors' employees is the no lay off policy and its health benefits. Those benefits should come in handy to the majority of the smokers.

    Cons

Management. How many supervisors does one department need? Too many people just distributing work to others and not enough people doing actual work.
Communication. Mixed messages, no communication from closed door meetings. Expectations change without you knowing it then get blamed for not knowing...
Monthly branch meetings about the millions in revenue/profit yet desk level employees don't see a dime.
There is a lack of is a lack of integrity and honesty despite it being part of the cultural values.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees -- Throw them a bone. Lots of people are very dissatisfied as shown from the anonymous survey recently. Clarify your performance review/raises and administer them consistently and timely. Is it performance or responsibility based?
