I worked at Expeditors full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Fast paced environment that offers opportunity to learn and improve ability to multitask.
    - Great team environment that employees contribute to and especially management.

    Cons

    - Work long hours
    - No clear assignment of duties which causes uncertainty and inability to be more efficient

    Advice to Management

Continue to do what your doing, but push to develop a structure that outlines each employees responsibilities. This could also incentivize a path for employee advancement.

I worked at Expeditors full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good, for now. Pay is decent. Most peers are decent people to work with.

    Cons

Too much favoritism. Way too many family members working with and for each other. If you're not in the clique, or hired direct as a manager, you're probably not going to do well.

    Advice to Management

Treat the lower employees better. Give bonuses, raises and even a simple pat on the back once in a while.

I worked at Expeditors as an intern

    Pros

I had the opportunity to have an internship in the Chicago location this past summer. Overall, Expeditors is a great company with a great cultural atmosphere. The employees are great and fun to work with. Management is also phenomenal that are driving the company in great directions. I couldn't have been happier to have had the opportunity to work here last summer and the experiences I had with the other interns as well.

    Cons

Internship starts off slow, but picks up.

I worked at Expeditors full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Overall meritocratic environment and advancement structure.

    Cons

Individual branches have their own way of doing things. Depending on the local branch management, you may be in a less than ideal work environment. Long hours are the norm for supervisors and managers, throwing work/life balance out the door. In order to advance, you need to prove that you will put work ahead of your personal life whenever necessary, and it's often necessary.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that branches are hiring the best possible candidates for career advancement within the company, not just hiring to fill an immediate need. Push for more frequent rotation in branch management to keep things fresh, fight stagnation, and allow for internal advancement. Branch managers should stay on for 3-5 years and then rotate out to expose them to new territories and business opportunities. This would also expose branch employees to new leadership on a regular basis.
