I have been working at Explore Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Personable employees -Approachable and understanding management -A focus on development at the pace of the individual -Managers are reflective in their practices to learn the best way to support individual teachers and lead professional developments -Teacher and staff reflections and suggestions are requested -Management trusts the teachers and adults in the building -Many lesson plans have skeletal plans to go off of or scripted plans to be adapted to best meet student needs (no need to reinvent the wheel) -Good benefits and vacation time

    Cons

-Long hours, but no different compared to most charter schools (7:30-4:30 students 7:45-3:30) -Team meetings are held during prep time (must be able to manage time wisely) -Large class sizes -Lack of personnel in leadership makes observations less frequent

I have been working at Explore Schools full-time

    Pros

Great staff members and teamwork. People tend to stick together when facing adversity. School-based leadership is always willing to lend a helping hand.

    Cons

There are too many priorities, and they are ever-changing. Teachers do not get adequate prep time or a consistent lunch (some days you do not get a lunch break). Teacher turnover is high, and network leadership appears not to care about this. The turnover affects school culture negatively- students do not trust new teachers, thus driving them away. Teacher voice is strongly discouraged, and many who are truly invested are either driven out or leave out of frustration.

    Pros

Decent pay for the long hours and school breaks

    Cons

Long hours, very little prep time, be prepared to work at home a lot after the school day, play favors, not a real teacher evaluation system, leaders often speak to you in a negative tone, work given to you last minute, and poor health care coverage

I have been working at Explore Schools full-time

    Pros

I work with some really amazing people! The network cares about building team within staff. They also do little things to show their appreciation like feeding us on PD days.

    Cons

Teachers have far from enough prep time to do everything that is required. Student behavior systems are lacking. Students don't seem to care about consequences. The network also is trying to do too much. As a result, teachers can't master their content so delivery tends to be poor.

I have been working at Explore Schools full-time

    Pros

    - wonderful teachers, positive culture between teachers - operations team is very helpful and they work really hard - wonderful students and families

    Cons

    - disconnected academic team, shows little interest in supporting teachers, they love to talk, but don't back up their words or actions - no principal, academic team doesn't get support and management they need - little prep time with team meetings happening during preps - the culture team is trying, but lack of support from academic directors makes the job of holding students to high standards difficult - network seems misguided, out of touch with what the school really needs. Doesn't listen to any ideas from staff, it's their way or the highway type mentality. - I've heard people are fearful to speak up because they are in fear of repercussions from superiors - I could go on and on

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We hope that you were able to relay your concerns to school and network leadership as we're always trying to improve. Teacher prep time is of the utmost importance and we have well over an hour each day devoted to planning time. We also have principals in place at each of our schools, all of whom have several years of teaching and leadership experience.
