I have been working at Express part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discounts, flexible schedule, friendly environment and a great introduction if you are new to retail.

    Cons

New hires only have the option of working part-time, horribly low wages for the responsibilities you are given and for a store that sells very expensive, opportunity for growth but you are only promoted with no raise. High corporate demands and no bonuses for making top sales. Odd management.

    Advice to Management

For such a high end store, salary should be up, realistically at least up by a dollar. Promotions should always come with a raise. New hires should have the option to work full time. I don't see why these things cannot be implemented. If you want to be on top again, these would be steps in the right direction to increase employee satisfaction.

The pay, some of the co-workers aren't the best, managers can be rude or apathetic

    Advice to Management

Find better people to manage store when you're not there

    Pros

The people I worked with were amazing, even the district manager was very team oriented

    Cons

They give you a ton of work, which isn't a bad thing, if they would pay you more than minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees for all of the hard work you expect them to do. No one wants to do all of that work for $7.50 an hour

I worked at Express part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very relaxed work setting, and not much micromanaging, very nice coworkers, easy job

    Cons

You're only scheduled in 4-5 hour shifts and of a manager schedules you outside of your availability they will still force you to find some to cover your shift. They will also try to pay you as little as possible. You're employee discount is terrible (only 40%) and you can't use it with any other sales which sucks because almost everything is always on sale.

    Advice to Management

Understand that mostly students are working for you and that school comes first.

I worked at Express part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not a difficult job, most days are fairly slow, opportunity to work floor set shift instead of selling, and a good discount.

    Cons

Depending on your location, your managers may not be friendly, understanding, or even compliant to the HR rules they are meant to abide by. The company also has a bad habit of not fully removing problem people from the company. Instead, they just move them to a new location. Just make sure you are happy with most of the people you are working with and you should be alright.

    Advice to Management

Skip the ego trips, ditch the dictator attitude, and be more of a leader. Title does not equal entitlement.

I worked at Express part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The employee discount makes the clothes more affordable so you can actually buy them. You get to meet and interact with different types of people.

    Cons

Crappy hours and inconsistent standards for employees. As with other part time jobs, it is not uncommon for other part timers to call-in all the time which results in being understaffed. If one person is awesome at the job, most of the work is put on that individual and the others are allowed to continually slack.

    Advice to Management

    Keep employees accountable.

I worked at Express (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Decent employee discount
    - Some employees weren't horrible

    Cons

    - The enjoyment of the job depended entirely on which manager was working that day. It was either mean managers who didn't like happiness, or the manager that hired me. Most of the time it was the mean manager.
    - Hated pushing the credit card. Felt like a terrible scam.
    - Call-in hours = less avaliblity for a second job.
    - Closing would sometimes take 3+ hours.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and decide what you want out of your managers. It is not consistent.
