I worked at Exterran full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Got to learn ASME Code because I was at the NHR location.

    Cons

No training. This is not a traditional QE role. You do not need to know anything about SPC, controlled or uncontrolled processes, nor repeatability. You will be expected to know everything on Day #1. There is no work life balance, and turnover is very high. There is no standardization nor appreciation.

    Advice to Management

Have purchasing and operations investigate why parts are not arriving to assembly. This is not a quality function. Also, every job is custom, so investigating 1-offs is extremely difficult. Train assemblers and make people feel valued, and employee turnover will not be high.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Exterran full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Work/life balance is great. Friendly people. Enough variety so you're not doing the same thing every single day. Good benefits.

    Cons

Massive layoffs, salary freeze for two years "to prevent more layoffs" followed by - you guessed it - more layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they're worth. The recovery has started, and the exodus of good employees seeking higher salaries has started too.

I worked at Exterran full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Exterran is a really good place to start out or develop an engineering career. There are plenty of opportunities to train and develop yourself. Upper management seems to be okay with pushing for training (but only when times are good). (Used to have) Good benefits

    Cons

Top heavy - upper management get all the protection and lower level people are screwed No chance at career advancement - they always hire from the outside for top level management so forget about internal promotions (they are misinforming you if they say that you can climb the corporate ladder)

    Advice to Management

Please learn to value the people who work for you - promote them instead of getting outside "experts"

I worked at Exterran full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good Environment , family friendly, very flexible, amazing colleagues and there is opportunity for personal and professional growth. Even though the oil prices really affected the company , the company still strives to be one of the best in Engineering construction

    Cons

Pays below most company, some department are bipartisan. Management needs to keep their promises. Management needs to be up to date with employees. Communication should be more effective

    Advice to Management

    Structure should be defined

  8. "Great Place to Work"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Intermediate Process Engineer in Houston, TX

I worked at Exterran full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

They do very well in training you. The compesation is just ok but could be better. Overall it is a great place to work.

      Cons

Very stingy with promoting you. Had to go outside the company to receive a promotion

      Advice to Management

      Review the salary structure

    • "Good"

      StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Applications Engineer in Houston, TX

I have been working at Exterran full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

Good training program, lots of opportunities to grow inside the company and the industry is growing rapidly

        Cons

Not always quick to promote unless you change positions, pay is below industry standards

        Neutral Outlook
        No opinion of CEO

I worked at Exterran full-time for more than 6 years

        Pros

Focused on safety; spends money on developing employees, and has different career paths available.

        Cons

If you've been with the company for some time your salary isn't increased accordingly to market conditions. Hires too many people outside of the industry which creates problems with "PROVEN" ideas not working out as planned.

        Advice to Management

This review is a bit old but it seemed that they could increase merits based on market conditions. There are also too many managers and not enough workers. Could look at reducing overhead.
