I worked at ExxonMobil for less than a year

    Pros

Real time applicable projects that added value to the company. Highly collaborative environment - you won’t be working in isolation. People are very open to helping you, as long as you take initiative to reach out. The internship program committee itself consistently hosts social events for the interns to get to know each other and executive panels for interns to meet senior level employees. Overall, a great... internship program. The possibilities to travel and have a globally rewarding career here are endless. 10/10 would recommend interning here! Outside of work, the Houston campus is a wonderful location, there’s even a chick fil a on campus!

    Cons

Hard to really think of any cons... the work is challenging but don’t be intimidated because it will only grow you in the long run.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits Great pay Enough work to make your head spin

    Cons

Performance reviews need to focus more on actual quality work. Rather than focusing on how well you keep everyone happy. Upward movement in career is difficult if you are not on the management route. Technical personal's movements are primarily lateral moves.

    Advice to Management

Performance feedback to employee needs to be on going instead of once a year during performance review cycle. 1:1 meetings with management need to actually focus on career development instead of giving a monthly update of current work progress. 1:1 are a complete waste of time.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Very cool to be working on such large-scale efforts (billion-dollar projects, some of the largest downstream processing units in North America) - Smart, friendly co-workers (I personally haven't seen any increased competitiveness due to ranking system; even when I interned, people were willing to set aside time to teach me / answer my questions) - Very willing to listen to / address safety concerns

    Cons

    - Very procedure-based, without much emphasis on creative problem-solving and engineering innovation; it seems like this may be starting to change, but it's definitely not there yet - Poor work-life balance at sites. It seems like site folks are over-worked, while others at the Houston Campus don't have enough to do, yet they're (mostly) all engineers... - If you start at a site, it seems very difficult to get a... job either at another site or in an office. Starting at refineries seems to give fewer career options than starting at the Houston Campus.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Job security, public servant-style coasting easily accessible, conservative attitude, working with decent yet limited people.

    Cons

You Are Here to Make Money for ExxonMobil, no other meaning or purpose, blindness to climate change or environmental considerations, Management managing up, primary purpose is making themselves look good and fattening their compensation.

    Advice to Management

You have decided that energy transition is not going to happen in the next ten years , so it is no threat to your co.pensation. That's actually true, but shame on you for destroying such a company. Or maybe not. Clear the space for something better.

    Pros

High integrity, good benefits, travel and international opportunities, rapidly increasing responsibility, very capable colleagues

    Cons

mature industry, top down management approach, inward focus, decisions can be overly political, forced ranking system

    Advice to Management

Continue CEOs current 2025 vision and continue to deploy working level visions for each group. Increase flexibility on policies and reform ranking system.
