I have been working at ExxonMobil (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Compensation, very generous salary and expat / relocation packages are exceeding large

    Cons

    - Culture (hierarchial and bureacratic)
    - Poor work / life balance
    - Dependent on volatile oil market
    - One of many (little to no incentive for managers to care about individual employees's desires)

I worked at ExxonMobil as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small group of talented, experienced professionals with diverse communications and policy backgrounds. I was given meaningful work as an intern.

    Cons

Intern program did not lead to an offer, but that was more a function of low oil prices. There is a predictable (but not staggering) amount of compartmentalization. The company does not make decisions quickly, but that is by design.

    Advice to Management

It is probably not necessary to play everything so close to vest. In general, however, I have no suggestions for the intern program. It was not overloaded with cheesy intern activities--just a normal job with a time limit.

    Advice to Management

Be fair when providing assignments and give everyone not only advice but support if needed.

    Pros

A lot of opportunities to learn new things about the oil industry. Having the Company's name on your resume is a good thing.

    Cons

No opportunities for growth if you are a contractor. You are not threated as fairly as the Employees are. You have to pay for your own training .

    Advice to Management

Do not micro manage your staff. Doing so may yield less productivity.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good retirement benefits with both a pensions and 401k. You are rotated very frequently so you don't stay in one position for years on end. You'll work with very smart people.

    Cons

No open job postings so you never know what's available. With the size of the company, it can seem like things move very slowly. The company culture is on the conservative side.

    Advice to Management

You're always told that you have a say in your career path but sometimes it doesn't feel that way. The forced ranking system is also outdated and needs to be eliminated.

Size and scope of global operations can be a bit daunting and bureaucratic.
