I have been working at ExxonMobil as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Big name. Clout in the industry. Brings in big talent if your educated and talented. Big name on your CV.

    Cons

IT is less to be desired. Being a global company, IT resources, knowledge and support are spread out all over the world. The money makers, ( the refinerys) are the last to receive IT funds to support an aging infrastructure and last to receive the latest tech and users suffer. Refinery sites have the highest educated engineers, geologists, scientists and project managers money can buy. But the IT equipment is sub par and my 12yr old has better tech. IT staff, even though educated, talented, and bring years of experience to the table, are contractors and will never enjoy the benefits full time employees do. Get the name on your CV and move on.

    Advice to Management

Don't contract out support staff, degree holding staff, or administrative positions that are full time forever. That undermines the staff value and only makes them look for direct hire full benefits jobs.
