    I worked at ExxonMobil full-time

    Pros

The pay and the benefits were in line with industry standards. They continue to offer both 401k and company provided pension.

    Cons

It seems like they are going to continue to shed assets in the continental US. They typically do not offer a separation package and include the employees with the sale.

    Advice to Management

Hopefully the pay and benefits can remain intact while the company sheds assets. Overall it was a good company to work for but varied manager to manager.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Steady work and employment, competitive pay, decent benefits (including a pension)

Lots of training opportunities are offered throughout the year, generally you are allowed the flexibility to chose the courses you want to take based upon your interest

    Cons

Old school approach to work, work from home can be a challenge depending on your organization. Influential assignments are tough to secure since the company applies militaristic approach to job placement where experience in many cases is the deciding factor.

The company culture as whole is not futuristic like what you expect a google, Facebook or any other Silicon Valley company but rather the old school “good ole boy” culture.

It can be tough to be fulfilled in your work as it can become mundane and not challenging.

    Advice to Management

Management should be much more proactive about putting people and challenging high growth potential assignments in which people can generate new ideas to problem solving.

In addition, I would note a change in the culture away from the “good ole boy” into more 21st century culture in the old ways of doing things can challenged with new ideas and approaches to problem solving.

Also I would note at finding opportunities to make the work environment more friendly and exciting as opposed to a high stress and hardened atmosphere, I do not believe that model will attract a continued stream of talent going forward in the 21st century.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always plenty of work to do. Lots of opportunities to learn, advancement depends on the job and background. Stability and great benefits.

    Cons

Culture of leadership to reward negative behavior, causes poor morale amongst the employees. Big headed individuals are overwhelming in trying to get things done in a safe and productive manner.

    Advice to Management

Supervisors and Managers should not encourage poor morale and competition within sections. People in good morale working as a team get things done safely, efficiently and accurately.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good salary, benefits, and job security, opportunities within different functions of the business (3-5 year job rotations), top-of-the industry training program, highly collaborative work environment, workplace flexibility becoming more the norm

    Cons

The forced ranking system is in complete opposition to creating dynamic team-centric problem solving--your ranking (and salary) become benchmarked on your performance in the first two years; the company is slow to accept the changing work demographic; abysmal family leave benefits

    Advice to Management

It's time to change your performance evaluation system and implement an industry-leading family leave policy. The new generation of "best-and-brightest" will go elsewhere unless the company changes from its archaic "this is what we've always done" attitude.
