I worked at ExxonMobil as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very structured rotational program for entry level career from college. Leader in pay. Massive, state of the art campus. Sit-stand desks.

    Cons

Was not given a real project to demonstrate key competency areas that are evaluated against. Forced ranking against peers results in extreme sense of competition.

    Advice to Management

Put interns with experienced leaders with the company so that they can recieve better guidance, as opposed to trying to develop the supervisor side-by-side with new intern

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are very intelligent, clever, and engaging
The work is interesting and challenging
    Great pay and benefits
    Opportunity for travel
It is neat to be a part of something so integral to society

    Cons

The competitive performance expectations are not for everyone
Work-life balance is encouraged, but hard to do
In addition to believing in yourself, you need a champion who believes in your potential early on and throughout your career

    Advice to Management

Force ranking good employees can lead to bad behaviors
Young eyes are watching how you treat seasoned employees
People are more than assets to be managed
Be more truthful and transparent with regard to career development
You are losing good employees under the guise of "poor performance"
If you must downsize, do it fairly, compassionately, and honestly
People spend thier lives at work - its not "just business", it's personal

I worked at ExxonMobil full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked there and they paid me. In this section you have to write a minimum of twenty words so here they are.

    Cons

You are just a number. If you like being in the military then you will like it here. They will relocate you to another state and not pay for it.

    Advice to Management

Say what you mean and mean what you say.

    - Felt supported with career development
    - Family oriented environment
    - Good work-life balance, depending on your manager
    - Great travel opportunities and policy

    Cons

    - Culture is very strong for experienced hires.. most people have only worked at ExxonMobil their entire lives
    - Most people who work there are extremely conservative
    - Sometimes feels like your fate is not in your own hands
    - Most opportunities are limited to Houston

    Advice to Management

You do a great job developing people, but those that are more transparent with moves are going to have greater employee satisfaction.. and you will get more diverse talent if you have career tracks outside of Houston.
