I have been working at Eyeball Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Industry leading technology, business savvy executives, talented engineering teams led by experienced subject matter experts in their field. Opportunity to work with tier 1 technology customers. Opportunity also for growth, reward and experience in both domestic and international markets.

    Cons

Opportunity and growth outpacing staffing which can create challenges to keep up. Learning curve can be steep if lack domain knowledge, but worth the effort.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus efforts on adding key people in sales engineering, sales and support.

I worked at Eyeball Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some SIP/Socket/C++ protocol/programming to learn by yourself by working on the products

    Cons

    - CEO is the worst in the world, angry, bad-tempered, foul-mouthed
    - If any team or individual fails to deliver according to CEO's wish, expect to get fired immediately
    - If any team or individual fails to deliver according to CEO's wish, everyone else's salary can be withheld for months
    - No one knows when the salary will be paid
    - Products have little or no automated tests
    - When selling, customers may be promised 100% features/quality, but there is no real test data to prove it, and after the customer buys, the engineers have to implement those features or fix the bugs for the product to live up to expectations, with tight deadlines
    - Impossible, unrealistic deadlines
    - No software process followed
    - Absolutely zero job security
    - Everything depends on CEO, no managers have any power
    - No salary increment policy. Expect nothing.
    - No benefits are approved until you go to war with it
    - If you are mediocre, you may be laid off on bad day when CEO gets angry. If you are a high performer, you are likely to find yourself all alone when all your team mates have left or got fired. You will have to face all the pressure all by yourself.
    - You cannot hire good teammates because of the bad reputation of the company
    - No sense of vision. No long term focus or strategy.

    Advice to Management

You need to learn how to run a company, instead of how to run a dictatorship.

I worked at Eyeball Networks full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1) Opportunity to work with cutting edge technology.
    2) The entire projects are visible to all employees, even the most junior one can explore the whole project.
    3) Directly working opportunity with customer side's engineers, which is useful for developing technical communication skills.
    4) The CEO knows the technology very well, so it is easy to make him understand what's going on.

    Cons

    1) Most of the projects are established, so unless there are some new projects, all you need to do is fixing bugs. Initially, it can be excited as the whole tech suppose to be new for the newcomer, but after some time, it can be a reason for feeling bored.

    2) Lack of good software architects/experienced software engineers.

    Advice to Management

    Expand product line

    Pros

    * Convenient location in Singapore
    * Great view from the office
    * Teaches you very quickly how terrible a job can be

    Cons

    * The CEO thinks he is running a slave ship and he is free to do with his employees as he pleases
    * People are getting fired and re-hired on the same day constantly
    * Pay is almost never on time
    * You are not allowed to take a vacation
    * You are expected to work 12-14 hours per day. If you don't you will be yelled at by the CEO. It doesn't matter if you do a good job or not
    * Engineering group and consequently products are of a very low quality
    * There is no vision or plan - both change weekly and everything is expected to be done "today"
    * The management never takes responsibility for its own mistakes, somebody to blame is always discovered
    * If you quit on your own, your last salary might not be paid
    * The management is absolutely not trustworthy - promises won't be kept if keeping them is not convenient

    Advice to Management

    * Your employees are people, not your slaves
    * Yelling at people and calling them names is not beneficial to the company or morale
