    Mediocrity Reigns Supreme

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Solid work/life balance - Excellent benefits and vacation allotments - Pays at or above market rate for the most part. Although this may be changing for the worse in the current competitive climate.

    Cons

    - F5 aspires to be a software company. Hardware people still run the company after acquiring 3 software companies. - Division GMs are fully autonomous meaning from a product perspective there is no singular vision for the company. - For the most part, customers no longer trust or rely on their F5 rep for anything other than filling data center orders. Most reps are blindsided by large modernization initiatives that they either didn’t know about or deliberately turned a blind eye from. Often, these end up targeting F5 as one of the solutions that will not continue at the company once the modernization is complete. - Despite how hardware centric the people and corporate accounting systems are, software is still forced through these systems. This leaves little to no flexibility for customer asks that F5 can’t anticipate because again, no one on the Corp team seems inclined to sell software. - If you’re looking for a job, F5 is a good place to be. If you’re looking to help build your career, not so much. I’d stay away.

    Marketing Department is Slowly Crumbling

Oct 28, 2021 - Marketing Strategist in Seattle, WA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Work / Life balance is management dependent Pay is good, assuming you came in with a good salary, since merit increases have been minimal Benefits are good and stock is overperforming if you're vested with RSUs and taking advantage of ESPPs C-Level leadership is solid and inspiring

    Cons

Marketing leaders have failed their ways into roles GDC and COE are lead by a group of older males (no diversity in leadership roles), continued attrition is hurting moral and gaslighting by leadership is uninspiring Goals are unrealistic and poor execution hurts employee's bottom line when it comes to quarterly bonuses. Lots of hiring of former colleagues / friends, creating cliques within marketing and lack of diversity. No accountability across marketing, just lots of finger pointing. Culture and values are not carried through by marketing leadership, lack of understanding of less privileged employees.

    Pros

Management makes a point about maintaining transparency and sharing the company’s overall goals, along with their measurements for success. There’s a clear emphasis on promoting diversity/inclusion and a good work-life balance.

    Cons

Common frustration with dealing with multiple tools and services due to several acquisitions in recent years. Merging everything together has been slow.

Great people and technology, lack of focus

Mar 30, 2021 - Manager in Seattle, WA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Lot's of great people. The company is very attentive to human needs and increasing engagement. Customers are loyal because of the long term relationships and great service. The work-life balance can be great or terrible depending on your boss, but for the most part it is better than competitors.

    Cons

Pay doesn't keep up with the market. The company is struggling to move into software and cloud businesses. Lots of organizational churn that marginalizes long time employees.
