    Pros

Possible outcome: Gain employment with one of the highest paid civilian jobs in America. At the academy in OKC the Perdiem is $94 a day, over 4 months, it's a nice bonus.

    Cons

The program is a grueling pace, its 4 months of studying day and night, and if you miss the mark by 0.1 points they fire you. At least they pay for travel.

    Advice to Management

Give applicants the ability to choose or wait for an opening in the option they want; terminal or enroute.

I worked at FAA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Government employment has great benefits, pension and a 401K, lots of vacation days and sick leave. Dental and vision also available.

    Cons

Very few jobs for those who aren't either an air traffic controller or a technician. When an alternative job does come available politics prevail over ability.

    Pros

Very satisfying work. It is exciting moving aircraft in a safe, expeditious manner. Enjoy work groups to create new routes as well as bring new equipment in. I love the interaction with the users as well as other facilities.

    Cons

    Must retire at age 56.

    Advice to Management

Respect and treat your employees well and you will reap great dividends.

I worked at FAA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most of the individuals working at the FAA strive to do the best job they can in whatever capacity they are assigned.

    Cons

There are a few individuals who have been hiding under the government umbrella of hard to fire that can make the jobs intolerable if you are stuck working with them.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so hesitant to rate someone as unacceptable and help them find a job they can enjoy and be good at.

I have been working at FAA full-time

    Pros

Great co-workers for the most part, most are ex military.
Good but not great benefits (401K matched to only 5%) but also a retirement.
Lots of room for advancement if you don't mind relocating.
Pay is good but not great unless you are a controller or have been in for a while.
Engineers don't engineer so they are paid appropriately they more or less manage contractors.

    Cons

Terrible managers, Dunning–Kruger effect is in full gear in the FAA. I had seen where other reviews pointed out poor leadership caused by people being promoted due to poor performance. I would agree with that reviewer especially in the Central Service Area. I can not speak to other service areas.

    Advice to Management

Examine the Dunning–Kruger effect and then look around to see where it applies. Chances are it applies to you.
Take lessons/classes in public speaking that would prevent the embarrassment you obviously fail to recognize but your audience knows too well.

High intensity work environment, exciting, cutting edge, constant change, never dull.

I have been working at FAA full-time

    Pros

Great training but you have to be patient...class dates take a while to get. Limited advancent for tech ops beyond H band unless you desire to go into management.

    Cons

There are not too many bad things to say about being in tech ops other than the rotating shoft work. Makes planning out schedules a little difficult.

    Advice to Management

Senior management says all the right things but needs to do a better job of holding front line managers accountable for following agency policies.

I worked at FAA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Money, benefits, job security & telling everyone what to do. Break times are 45 minutes every 45 minutes to an hour and you still get paid for 8 hours.

    Cons

You will not be able to have weekends off for nearly 20 years. Not working most of the time you are at "work" can cause high levels of anxiety.
