I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-managment is truly apart of the team.
    -working environment
    - coworkers
-exposure to industry and manufacturing methods
    -independance

    Cons

-not enough time in the day to fully enjoy the FARO life

    Advice to Management

Mrs. Edwards is probably the absolute best leader/boss I've ever had hands down. She is frigen brilliant and approachable. I'd move a mountain with a toothpick if she asked, because she would do the same. She sticks up and defends her team, what a cool leader. I'd say promote her. But i dont want to lose her as a boss!

I worked at FARO Technologies full-time

    Pros

I met some good people at the company. Supportive environment, in which your co-workers help you out when you have a question. When I was new, it was a 3-4 month ramp-up to get a understanding of SAP, and several employees helped me with explaining the order entry procedure's. They provide you with a nice, big desk which I liked...the working environment was pretty good as well. Not a lot of micro-management. Good salary(not a lot of companies nowadays are paying 45K base for a glorified telemarketing position). Benefits are good and almost all paid for. PTO is very good as well(17.5 days a yr after your 90 day probation).

    Cons

The Inside Sales team(not going to mention the division I worked for- their are 3 total) is heading to strictly outbound calling. Management needs to be able to help employees out with questions better and not leave it up to your co-workers for help when you have questions. Lot of stress at the end of the quarter with getting sales in and to hit "numbers"...people seem to be running around with their "heads cut off"....very stressful and disorganized as well the last week of the quarter....To much pressure to get the required web demos for each account manger you support.

The job is about 80 percent salary. You can make 5-10 K in commission....BUT you better have a good territory and good account managers you work with. Some of the Account managers are NOT salespeople and have a big problem closing sales.

    Advice to Management

learn SAP(so if a employee has a question about something they don't have to bother co-workers) and do a better job training new employees on the database, because its very cumbersome and frustrating.
Make the commission percentages higher. Instead of 0.25 , start out with 1/2 percent and go up to 1.75 percent. It would really increase moral in the dept.

    Pros

    Great Benefits and great people

    Cons

No Culture, hostiles work environment. No true leadership even from Senior Management. The company is run like mom and pop shop! High turn-over rate.

    Advice to Management

A re-organization must happen in order to grow starting with Senior Management.

I worked at FARO Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting technologies and projects, good co-workers, some good middle management. Vision for company is good.

    Cons

Manufacturing processes for R&D. Well below market pay, hence difficulties to hire & retain good people. The amount of deadlines (that can come as a surprise to the ones required to implement them a few days before) can mess up your PTO plans, not to mention failing to meet group goals (ie. performance pay).

    No technical career track.

    Advice to Management

Try not to save in the wrong places.

I worked at FARO Technologies (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome product and smart co-workers who can teach you a lot of stuff.

    Cons

Extremely poor management ready to fire anyone at any point in time for trivial reasons. Bad leadership with no accountability. If something doesnt work, then someone takes the hit. That someone can usually be the newest member of the team.

Your career will most likely stagnate for quite sometime and there is no opportunity to move between departments and products.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees and provide opportunities to grow.

I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

co-workers and benefits make it passably worthwhile

    Cons

Out of touch CEO, wage cuts, unattainable metrics, lack of upward mobility.
This was a great place to work under the old CEO. Family atmosphere and feeling that employees were valued.
New CEO has completely turned that around and it has affected morale which is pretty much non-existent. It's become a bad, fear based, environment. Unfortunately the sales numbers are good so the Board of Directors will never replace Raab. Employees were told three years ago he was at most a 12 month step-in. There has not been an active replacement search for over 30 months.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees more than you do a dollar.
