    Pros

They talk a good game and make everyone feel important.

    Cons

Behind your back they make plans to change everything then complain that you are behind schedule. What schedule do you mean nobody advised us ...TOO BAD you loose! Everything is geared to provide bonuses to upper management and not the average workers. Way too top heavy!!!

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like humans not cattle to be used and abused.

    Pros

Great technology, a lot of research going on. Some of the smartest colleagues.

    Cons

Management is a mess. No direction, no idea and mass confusion. People get fired at a whim if they can't meet the unreasonable expectations from management. Director has no idea on how to deal with people. Cant build relationships with employees and micromanages too much. There is a clear lack of direction and lack of skills to mange people.

    Pros

Had the exciting opportunity to work in R&D and production. Some of the greatest colleagues in terms of knowledge and capability were met here. Great salary, benefits, and stock options.

    Cons

Management is running the company into the ground - new CEO has a different idea every day that would change R&D's priorities. Talented colleagues are finding new work very easily after realizing the toxic culture here.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to look inwards and determine why there is such a high turnover rate among R&D and production engineers.

    Pros

    Good Benefits package. Good people.

    Cons

The company is on its 3rd CFO in 1.5 years and the CEO quit after the company laid off 8% of its workforce last year. The constant fear of losing your job makes moral very low. Upper management is running the company into the ground. Americas IT Management is just a substandard, second rate and sheepish. Morally deficient and has zero integrity. They will under mind you and go behind your back and throw you under the bus if they think it will make them look good. They make you promises and then without any communication break them. They are so arrogant they don't even see that everyone see's right through it.

    Advice to Management

Unethical and shady business practices will get you nowhere.

    Pros

Maybe, Salary. Not a conducive place for Mellinnials and work life balance. You will get fired if not performing at 110 percent. See negatives for more.

    Cons

No leadership. No personal development or training. Open office gives you no privacy with a always looking over your shoulder type of feeling. Major jealousy and people talking about you behind your back.

    Advice to Management

    Grow up and be adults.

I worked at FARO Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Leaving. Plenty of really awesome people to commiserate with. Has so much potential if the current management is ever replaced. Health benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Culture of fear. Toxic leadership. Constant fear of being written up for the slightest infraction. If you work here as an hourly employee, they own you. You are nothing but a slave to them. Zero employee development. You're on camera everywhere. They are suspicious of everyone for anything all of the time.

You're in a "team" but there is literally zero effort given to team-building. You are constantly reminded of how expendable you are. You are nothing but a robot, and your pay is the only compensation you need. You are actively encouraged not to take any time off, especially at the end of each month, quarter, and year. You will never have a good work/life balance here.

They also don't care about the customer. Products are neat but the supply chain is horribly mismanaged from the top down. SAP implementation is gimped and nobody knows wtf they are doing with it.

Your performance will be judged based on the number of products you build or repair and how often they fail. Not enough parts to get product out the door to reduce turn around time? Somehow your fault, and since you didn't meet turn around time, no bonus.

All the things that used to be fun about working here (company picnics, social events, holiday parties, etc) are gone.

They will talk you into paying you less with the "promise" of quarterly bonuses, and then set the threshold for earning that bonus arbitrarily and unattainably high. Your pay is the only reward you will earn for any amount of effort.

Toxic, toxic, toxic "leadership". My new (current) employer is so nice to work for that I keep expecting something bad to happen based on my experience at faro. I still wake up every Saturday with relief that I don't have to put in yet another day at that awful, awful place.

Don't work here. Management is more worried about shoe marks on the floor (true story) than any contribution you might hope to make or be adequately rewarded for.

    Advice to Management

Try to visit the manufacturing and service floors as little as possible. Your people are their most productive when you aren't there harassing them.

I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The salary and benefits are good; however it is to compensate for a very poorly run work environment that turns hostile.

    Cons

    - Lack of follow through with career growth
    - Poorly ran departments with no direction from the department heads
    - No one seems to be on the same page including people in the same department
    - Small company trying to act big and cannot get the basics down
    - You spend more time CYA-ing then actually doing the job you came for

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately since being on 3rd CFO in 1.5 years and on their 2nd CEO, it is clear the company is lacking good leadership and direction. When I came onboard I was super excited as this company appeared to have terrific growth opportunity and promoted a good working environment. Short time in, I knew I was sold a corvette and got a hoopty.

Management - Open your eyes because you a running a solid company into the ground. If there are no significant changes in the next year, FARO is definitely at risk of being bought up by another industry leader and put out of their misery of being a poorly run company.

    Pros

Everyone below mid-level management was very driven with integrity.

    Cons

Senior Leadership is useless. Out of touch from the supporting business activities. Can't make educated decisions because they don't care to hear what their employees have to say.

    Pros

Great technology in a growing market. Solid and generous benefits. Great team members and coworkers. Team members really care about each other and try to help out where they can.

    Cons

Sales positions are 100% commission-based, and mid and upper mgmt dice up territories that cut into one's ability to make the #'s as initially agreed.
Lots of hours to put in to have any success.
Agree w/ the previous review that Mgmt and HR make rash decisions based on gossip taken as fact. Many mid-level managers are incompetent and inexperienced, leading by guesswork.
Seems great at first, but further along, lots of politics, power-plays, games and this-for-that favors and favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Management, both mid-level and definitely Sr.-level need to let go of ego and instead, cultivate the best talents of each team player, rather than trying to either be cool or at some levels, operate like a tyrant. Additionally, the politics played at FARO amongst management cause animosity and a shaky, untrusting work culture on the wide underbelly that FARO's management and HR have established.
