I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Challenging and fun work helping others learn about and use our technology. Great environment for self-motivated individuals that don't require an outside source to provide them with things to do.

    Cons

Many people within the company are performing the jobs of multiple roles. There is a great deal of pressure to quietly take care of it all for fear that you may be in the next round of layoffs even though you may be considered an essential employee.

    Advice to Management

There are people working extremely hard for FARO that truly believe in the products they sell and support but they are not getting paid commensurate to their efforts. I have seen some extremely talented individuals leave not because they didn't like FARO but simply that they could afford themselves and their families a better quality of life working elsewhere. While there is certainly more to life than money, money is what pays the bills.
Another area for improvement is inter office communication. We received a memorandum not long ago that we should respond to something within 4 hours... That's pretty tough to do especially when you are training but it should be possible to get some sort of response within a day from an internal employee. This is frequently not so.

I worked at FARO Technologies (More than a year)

    Pros

Quick to embrace new technologies (Strong IT department & IT investment). Holidays were enjoyable. Outstanding facility to work in.

    Cons

Mid-level management should be running the company. Upper-level management only focused on sales numbers and pet projects; was shockingly disconnected with the market demands, market trends, and the day-to-day operations and pain points of the company.

    Advice to Management

Open your office door (figuratively and literally) to increased communication with middle management. Participate in industry-related discussions and observe trends. Stop talking about employees negatively behind their backs with other employees--it continues to undermine your credibility.

    Pros

Great co-workers are devoted to making an excellent product. Talented people really know their stuff.

    Cons

Even though the company is profitable and actively hiring, they are quick to lay people off without warning. Morale is low and people are scared of losing their job.

I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is in growth mode due to under penetrated sector so it has plenty of opportunity to expand. Good work ethics and friendly co worker. Good compensation package and benefit. The technology is robust and relevant.

    Cons

Recent new layer upper management is out of touch. Leaders seems unsure of what direction to take. Lack of vision especially in the product management. Technical leaders doesn't have any solid ground to day to day operation. The big growth has cost them innovation and it's reactionary response rather than proactively looking for technological advancement.

    Advice to Management

Recognize your team strength and invest in them and see the big picture. Looking good in the balance sheet is not sustainable for long term growth.

I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have a lot of autonomy.

    Cons

Management is so concerned with quantity, that the quality of the hardware and the software is appalling. The product management is disastrous, and the lack of design, planning, quality assurance, and testing cost FARO millions in customer service, training, documentation, lost customers, and tarnished reputation.

    Advice to Management

Try and use the software. Hire some project managers.

    Pros

Good pay and benefit structure but watch your back when times are slow

    Cons

No matter how talented or successful you may be your time is limited.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate and hang on to talented and successful individuals in good times and bad. Markets are cyclical when the down times are over your talent is gone.

    Pros

    -Good compensation
    -Good products
    -Smart and dedicated people
-Clear targets on what management expects from employees
    -Autonomy to reach those targets

    Cons

-Leadership is a mess; strong mandate for results with weak vision on how to obtain them. Little to no guidance.
-Sterile company culture; employees are drained, fearful, and under appreciated.
-Top performers are rarely recognized and usually downsized.
-Lots of internal fighting and cross-department competition; toxic...not collaborative.

    Advice to Management

-Take care of your people and they will take care of you
-Seek feedback on what is working and what isn't.
-Spend less time running reports, and more time running at the head of the pack; lead by example and offer to lighten the load.
