I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time

    Pros

I work with great people in a great office environment. I feel appreciated.

    Cons

Many ups and downs recently but looking forward to the new CEO making FARO even better!

    Advice to Management

Not all managers are like mine. Other managers should make sure their teams are appreciated for the hard work they do!

I worked at FARO Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great co-workers,benefits were decent. HR has seemed to improve in last two years and seem to want to help. Question is how much they can. Went to base plus commission comp plan. Products are good but old CEO rushed product releases.

    Cons

Pay is not distributed fairly. Inside team makes calls finds customers and gets low commission pay once. The Inside Account Manager team is basically just taking orders for warranty, software etc and reaps benefits of others hard work at a higher commission rate. Too much like high school where buddy system is how promotions and territory is determined. Inside Sales team and Account managers should get residual... comp from accounts in territory like most companies do. Inside sales management team is unhelpful and relies on non management employees to train new employees. Anyone that was helpful has left or been pushed out. Had one person in management offer to help me and it wasn't even my manager. However they are no longer in management. Managers always in meetings and unavailable. Heard one Sales Manager gossip with her team about another employees personal issues.

    Advice to Management

Pay the Inside Sales Teams for what they do as they are the ones finding you new business and helping Account Managers maintain existing. Create residual income for territories from warranty ,software and other items. I heard FARO used to do this so the inside sales and account managers benefited from their territory management. Stop hiring everyone's friends and family so treatment is fair. Listen to inside sales... teams feedback as many leave because better income at other companies. Sales people want residual income to an extent. Turnover is hurting sales. Get rid of bad managers and favoritism. Clean house on inside sales management. Hire new team based on qualifications.

I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

FARO has one of the best products in the industry. Atmosphere is lot more upbeat since the announcement of the new CEO. Great people to work for in this company. Let’s keep this momentum going!

    Cons

Some of the top senior executives and leaders needs to go. They are just paying little politics and doesn’t care about people. HR is really trying to bring back the and uplift the morales but some of these executives trying to stop them from doing anything positive for employees by cutting budget.

    Advice to Management

This message is for new CEO: Please know that people of this company are hardworking and truly believe that we can do better. Please know that you’re surrounded by people who doesn’t want to see you succeed because they didn’t get your job! Be careful of them! You’re smart so ask anyone and they will tell you who’s the problem in this company

I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good PTO leave, employees are nice and friendly.

    Cons

Horrible leadership at the top. New CEO coming in and people are optimistic but hopeful there will be change. Top leadership needs cleaned out. They make decisions without listening to the people in the field. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYONE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES. The workers are second class citizens. Horrible compensation plan. You may get a signed offer letter and compensation package. They change it when they want... and if you don't accept you are fired. They have reduced commission 3 times in just over a year. People are leaving left and right due to upper management, pay and hostile environment.

    Advice to Management

Remove Kathleen who is a copy of Simon. She does not care about the workers only bottom line that is often terrible because of their decisions. They point the finger to the employees because they make bad decision. Hopefully the new CEO cleans house. Get senior management that cares about the employees who actually make the company money! Treat them right and they will have pride in their job and the company.

I worked at FARO Technologies full-time

    Pros

Some really good people within the organization, the products are solid and the company does have a good reputation in the industry. Decent investment in IT to support the employees. Benefits are average.

    Cons

CEO and COO. The company succeeds despite them due to some great long term people at the ground level and middle management. CEO has a talent for vision and technology, but fails on being an effective day to day leader. Strategy changes on a month to month basis. New verticals are created and disbanded within 6 months. New employees who are succeeding are fired when the CEO changes his mind. Culture of high... commission and low base salary drives many poor decisions and leads to constant churn in the sales team. New sales deployment strategy in industrial space has lead to heavy departures.

    Advice to Management

Th board has a chance with the CEO retirement to fix this. You need someone that is ready to create a new culture for the future, and to then put someone in place to run the commercial organization that understands customers is not just an operations / numbers person.

I worked at FARO Technologies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Cutting edge technology. Base salary + commission. Free food in the break room left over from meetings. Co workers are nice.

    Cons

This company has the most hostile, discriminatory working conditions I have ever seen in my career in sales. Management is terrible. Its nothing but a cold calling center where you will be setting demonstrations for regional AMs. If they can make the sale, you get to process the PO. Don't ever go to HR for anything, even to tell them you are being treated unfairly. They just sweep your complaints under the rug and... cover for hostile, passive aggressive managers. I have seen managers complain someone took too many bathroom breaks before. This company will fire you if they catch you sending a text message. Its slavery and not a fun place to work at all. I once heard a manager bragging that he wished he could fire more people, but upper management wouldn't let him because turnover was already so bad. This place is gross.

Provide more guidance to employees. Slow down a bit and train more employees. Create work life balance so employees feel at home.

    Pros

There used to be opportunity maybe one day it will come back, benefits are good.

    Cons

Management has little direction and is out of touch with customers and employees. New company direction is to save costs, by cutting pay/opportunity and over working the other teams like Applications Engineers and Customer Service. To boost revenue, management has been raising prices on everything with no real justification and our customers have noticed and started looking at other options. No real path... for advancement anywhere, company hires from outside.

    Advice to Management

Founder needs to step back from the company and hire a business CEO again. He would make a great head of R&D, but does not understand the value of his other employees.
