I worked at FARO Technologies for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to work loads of OT.

    Cons

Management can be a challenge to deal with. Heard that a lot of good people no longer work there and they are struggling.

    Advice to Management

HQ needs to wake up and analyze the situation before Board members act!

I have been working at FARO Technologies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good benefits Great technology CEO who cares and has good experience Most people are a pleasure to work with Good resources to accomplish work Positive outlook in the future

    Cons

Terrible and totally unqualified Senior Management Absent HR and weak guidance Lack of direction Unreasonable expectations Behind the scenes, unethical business practices when dealing with customers Poor communication Almost no recognition or appreciation

    Advice to Management

Senior Management specifically has a ton of problems and I believe it mostly relates to being extremely under qualified. A lot of illegal and unethical practices are taking place under wraps: Bullying Retaliation Targeting/discrimination A lot of employees are afraid to speak up because they do not trust HR to not do the same. It seems senior level and up cannot be trusted. Stop belittling lower level employees and blaming them for problems that you should be solving. Stop looking out for just yourselves and throwing everyone else under the bus to simply secure promotion or not lose your job. Take feedback from employees. You have a responsibility to employees as much as employees have a responsibility to you. It is not a one way street.

    Pros

They talk a good game and make everyone feel important.

    Cons

Behind your back they make plans to change everything then complain that you are behind schedule. What schedule do you mean nobody advised us ...TOO BAD you loose! Everything is geared to provide bonuses to upper management and not the average workers. Way too top heavy!!!

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like humans not cattle to be used and abused.

I worked at FARO Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Leaving. Plenty of really awesome people to commiserate with. Has so much potential if the current management is ever replaced. Health benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Culture of fear. Toxic leadership. Constant fear of being written up for the slightest infraction. If you work here as an hourly employee, they own you. You are nothing but a slave to them. Zero employee development. You're on camera everywhere. They are suspicious of everyone for anything all of the time. You're in a "team" but there is literally zero effort given to team-building. You are constantly reminded of how expendable you are. You are nothing but a robot, and your pay is the only compensation you need. You are actively encouraged not to take any time off, especially at the end of each month, quarter, and year. You will never have a good work/life balance here. They also don't care about the customer. Products are neat but the supply chain is horribly mismanaged from the top down. SAP implementation is gimped and nobody knows wtf they are doing with it. Your performance will be judged based on the number of products you build or repair and how often they fail. Not enough parts to get product out the door to reduce turn around time? Somehow your fault, and since you didn't meet turn around time, no bonus. All the things that used to be fun about working here (company picnics, social events, holiday parties, etc) are gone. They will talk you into paying you less with the "promise" of quarterly bonuses, and then set the threshold for earning that bonus arbitrarily and unattainably high. Your pay is the only reward you will earn for any amount of effort. Toxic, toxic, toxic "leadership". My new (current) employer is so nice to work for that I keep expecting something bad to happen based on my experience at faro. I still wake up every Saturday with relief that I don't have to put in yet another day at that awful, awful place. Don't work here. Management is more worried about shoe marks on the floor (true story) than any contribution you might hope to make or be adequately rewarded for.

    Advice to Management

Try to visit the manufacturing and service floors as little as possible. Your people are their most productive when you aren't there harassing them.

    Pros

Company shows well (like a house with a new coat of paint hiding it's many flaws). Clean working environment.

    Cons

You are treated as though you are a child. You must completely dedicate your life to the company and you must be a "Yes Man/Woman" to continue working there. Product quality comes last, meeting quota comes first. Company is completely corporate policy driven unless you brown nose, then they will look the other way. Management lacks professionalism, honesty and character, they lie to your face (all the time acting as if they care about you), elevate illiterate people to management simply because that person dedicated their life to the company. PTO is useless as they rarely approve time off, unless you do personal favors for your boss. Company will tell you to follow procedure to the letter, then tell you to skip steps and get unit out the door, then when it comes back as a failure, they blame you. Pay raises are once a year and low, so get in high. Company demands mandatory OT indefinitely, working employee to exhaustion with no end and does not care how it affects the employee's health and life. It's all about the numbers, it's all about the company. Then one day, you will go into work, be called into the office and terminated with no notice or reason, this happens constantly at FARO Laser Division.

    Advice to Management

Grow up, act as professional as you pretend to be, speak and act the truth, stop working employees to death, get organized, become people of great character, appreciate your employees, understand their people with lives and families, stop being dictators, end the B.S., stop hiding behind corporate policy and stop playing favorites, end inappropriate employee/employer relationships, i.e. allowing certain employees to do you personal favors in return for preferred treatment.

    Pros

Salary is good, there are amazing people working there but it’s a minority.

    Cons

No benefits except those given by law. No micromanagement and people do whatever they want instead of working. Unless you have a degree nobody will listen to what you have to say. Management keeps changing and keeps making wrong decisions.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees, listen and act accordingly. Don’t act blindly.
