    Negative Outlook

I have been working at FAST full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company's base salaries are a 15-20 % higher than the average market rate for the same job. The company pays for free starbucks coffee, lunch from a shop, and provides all of the right tools and equipment if it's a reasonable request. The company provides very high end laptops and encourages people to share their ideas with each other. You are expected to learn and pick a lot of new things. What you have learned...

    Cons

Having said the above, the workload and expectations are easily 40-50% higher. Working wee hours into the night is commonplace and employees are so overwhelmed that they don't have the time to take anyone's ideas no matter how good they are. There's a product improvement backlog building from 3 years. The new trend of off-shoring to cheap indian programmers has taken hold firmly. So the work never stops. It happens...

    Advice to Management

You want a lot of growth at the expense of a robust, fully functioning, and clean product. You don't have it. Maybe the goal is to sell the company to a big buyer and cash out. Start-ups do that. But you have thousands of lines of code in single files. You generate gigs of code that takes hours to compile. It is reached a critical mass where employee productivity and morale are plunging. Address it, or vanish. Or worse,...

I have been working at FAST

    Pros

Work is fun and challenging. Can discuss issues/ give feedback to senior management easily. Smart people. Creativity, innovation is encouraged. Opportunities to learn and grow.

    Cons

Work hours are more and pay is less since it is a startup company. Things are not so organized like a big company, which sometimes causes frustration.

    Advice to Management

Improving communication, organization and information sharing would definitely improve productivity and decrease frustrations. Formulating some rules/standards for all work flows would help.

I have been working at FAST full-time

    Pros

A Fantastic company devoted to helping people learn and develop. They are willing to really bring you up to speed and are not looking for a "plug and play" style of employee. The benefits are fantastic and the annual AGM is worth working here on its own. There's a real focus on employee fit and talent over knowledge as they use a proprietary system that must be learned even by experienced programmers and developers.

    Cons

The work is fairly specific to the Fast system and therefore can be of limited transferability
