I worked at FBR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hours aren't horrible. 25 dollars for food a night. Uber home after 8. The new office they moved into is very nice.

    Cons

Management only wants to pay themselves. They pay you as little as possible. What they don't pay you, they use to go on vacation with family.

    Advice to Management

Activist should come in and change everything around.

    Pros

Decent lifestyle, relatively speaking. Sales/trading driven, so little value given to IBD.

    Cons

Comp, comp, comp. Senior team doesn't value of the junior resources. Poor culture given super high turnover at lower ranks. Even senior team is miserable.

    Advice to Management

    Hopeless...what's the point.

Supportive management - very willing to help you advance your career if you show real interest; surrounded by intelligent people; firm is not a behemoth so you feel closer to peers; great benefits

    Cons

Watch out for the free food people bring in! :)

    Advice to Management

None - just keep it up!

I have been working at FBR full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are very skilled and professional. At the same time, employees are cordial and respect each other. They work hard and never lose sight of themselves as individuals. The clients and vendors share good comments about our firm. Finding a place of work with these attributes are few and far between. FBR & Co. is truly a cute above many.

    Cons

There's always room for improvement in all of us. We should work honestly on enhancing our own weakness first before building that list of "What I Don't Like About..."

    Advice to Management

Listen and continue to be excellent leaders.

I worked at FBR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Free lunch on the 25th of every month

    Cons

Everything else. Expensive healthcare, Lack of upward mobility. Management promotions because of tenure. Low compensation and no bonus.

    Advice to Management

Form committees and speak to employee. Happy employees are productive employees. Increase compensation many employees would like to have a career with the firm but the unbelievably low compensation forms a roadblock.

    Pros

Equity research/Investment banking in the DC area. Strong player in the 144A issuance market. Company is focusing on adding value through policy research.

    Cons

Work normal investment banking hours while getting paid the FBR rate. Compensation is a joke. Only reason to work here is to get a start so you can move to a better firm soon. Most research here is a joke. Lots of turnover in research as people pursue better opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Either pay people or work them less.

    Pros

Nice offices, but they are moving. Work life balance is good and compensation was excellent in past years (2011 my bonus was almost nothing compared to other years).

    Cons

The values of the top management is questionable, They are getting back on the right track but in the short term the company is questionable.

good hours (some groups work longer than others), good people, lots of responsibility, opportunity to be promoted to analyst, vibe is social amongst associates

    Cons

The pay is mediocre and the there are few benefits beyond medical, dental, and vision. Should add tuition reimbursement and travel compensation.
