I worked at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Everything at CTC is under one roof. Nail and hair salon, doctor's office and pharmacy on site which is very convenient. They recently added a dry cleaning service as well.

    Cons

Work-Life balance is not good! Parking is absolutely horrible. Hard to find a parking spot unless you arrive by 6:30AM or are handicap. Yearly review process is not good and more often than not it demotivates their employees as it is a forced distribution curve.

    Advice to Management

Forced distribution curves are wrong and not beneficial to the employee or company. Need to improve the work-life balance. Need more opportunities for growth within company.

    Pros

Lot of responsibility for engineers and you will learn a lot very fast. The company is huge and there is the possibility to work in many disciplines

    Cons

Difficult to make it to managment as there are only a select few positions available. Management also has the ability to block you from lateral moves even if you have been in your position for the required minimum.

    Advice to Management

Provide incentivies to stay at the company and fix the review ( PLM) system.

    Pros

Pay was good, but Management does not know what they are doing so its like driving blind

    Cons

Managers micro manage without knowing how to regularly manage. PLM are biased and unfair. Do not trust management

    Advice to Management

Get more training - and upper management check how lower management is actually treating employees - you are loosing workers to incompetence.

I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Above average pay (if you are willing to fight for it), decent benefits, opportunity for advancement if you are willing to work hard, being able to build products that people actually care about. As the old regime exits, there are more opportunities for new ideologies to take root and flourish but it's going to be a long process and not happen without a fight. If you have the guts to stay in the fight you can make a difference but not without sacrifice.

    Cons

Definitely not for everyone. If you are the sensitive type, you should look for a different industry to work in. Work life balance is not an option if you want upward mobility, management uses fear as the only real motivation, leadership positions are chosen based on social skills more than actual ability, mandatory overtime, no clear direction, company doesn't practice what it preaches, integrity is lacking, and pretty much every other corporate cliche you can think of. Product quality is not improving due to bad decisions at all levels. Waste is a big problem also.

    Advice to Management

Set more realistic/achievable goals, no one likes failing at everything because all their goals are unobtainable stretch goals. Use more contract employees to front-load new product launches so that the direct hire employees can focus on the long term/more critical work. Actually start using the methodologies you speak so highly of how they were intended to be used, instead of trying to figure out ways to keep "improving" them. The methodologies were fine just the way they were when you first decided to start using them.
