    Pros

The best mid size technology company to work for in Oregon, if you are looking for stability, friendly coworkers and work life balance.

    Cons

Software innovations happen at a glacial pace. Out of the box thinking, constructive criticism and the promotion of other than the established technologies or methodologies gets you labeled as "Poor team player".

    Advice to Management

Define and communicate realistic growth targets around fewer but more scalable platforms with better margins. Reward employees who prevent issues from becoming problems in the first place just as much as people who heroically put out fires in the field, and at last stop throwing good money after bad on failing software projects.

    Pros

FEI offers a lot of benefits on top of mediocre salary. They have a great work life balance.

    Cons

Very internal politically driven company. Hard to advance. Salaries could be better.

    Advice to Management

Show employees a little more respect through the whole chain and not just management.

    Pros

work life balance is nice interesting products with challenging technical issues

    Cons

growth has brought challenges. US is beholden to management in EU--EU is slow to respond and often at the expense of success in the US. Senior management is becoming more and more disconnected with reality.

    Advice to Management

Talk to employees, really reward and value them and don't just talk about it. Get connected with reality of the business.

    Pros

Great company to work for. Company is strong, well diversified and forward looking. Technologies are cutting edge and base products are leveraged to span multiple markets and industries. Company has good reserves and has invested heavily in (smaller) mergers and acquisitions in the past few years. Little turnover and loyal employees, many return after going elsewhere. Very few RIFs in last several years, but the... few that occurred are quiet and sudden. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Salaries are OK, but yearly increases across the board are small.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at FEI full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

At the management level, the pay is very good - but careful what you wish for (see below). Work/Life balance is also good. Some nice people, but...

    Cons

The company culture is terrible...the technology roots (and brains) of this company are seated in the Netherlands, and the workforce there is comprised of arrogant, lazy "employees" who spend most of their time backstabbing or paying lip-service to their American colleagues, or they're on vacation (I use the term "employees" in quotes because they all work for the Dutch Works Council (similar to an American union)... and firing them is nearly impossible). The Dutch have ZERO respect for US employees, including and especially the CEO (Kania), and it shows in their apathy for the work and their 3 months a year vacation time. Time and again, I saw unqualified employees "promoted" into positions because they kissed a lot of you-know-what at the Sr. VP level, so, many long-tenured, knowledgeable employees would report to clueless idiots. Also, this company has a reputation of getting rid of people that make too much money. If you make six figures based on your experience, contribution to company success, the value that you bring - and you're NOT at the VP level - you're automatically a target, so watch out.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes and look at the dysfunction around you! Stop placing your trust in butt-kissers who ride the accomplishments of others for their own good. Get rid of the clueless idiots that have run their departments into the ground. Stop micromanaging the budget...stop telling managers how much they can have, and start LISTENING to what they need to move the company forward. And please just cut bait and... acknowledge that the Dutch and Americans can never work effectively together. Slice off the European business and let them run it themselves, just take the technology and use the cheap(er) manufacturing capabilities for production.
