    Great work schedule (AWS and telework). Supervisor is very encouraging. Work is very mission oriented.

    Hard to move to different departments if you have to go through USAjobs

    You get to help people, travel you learn about disasters what really happens. Its rewarding knowing what you do makes a difference in peoples lives. You grow up and learn to be independant.

    Your away from everything comfortable to what you know. You miss your family an friends.

    Remember People do this because they really want to help and learn. Try not to over micro manage. Be patient. Please share your knowledge were not here to take over we are here to help.

    I worked at FEMA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Excellent job satisfaction. Assigned to assist others in need. Constantly changing project parameters.

    Cons

    Bureaucratic red tape. Early in a disaster, work weeks can be 12 hours a day for five days, and 6 hours on a sixth. Employees can be whisked from one disaster to another on short notice, without having projects completed.
