International students beware at FEV Diesel Powertrain

    Pros

You may have good learning if you initially get into a calibration project else they will grind you with durability project and data analysis as a monotonic work cycle. The good thing is their insurance plan.

    Cons

FEV will always hire international interns and be underpaid ~$20/hour. They may even offer fulltime within 3-9months of internship but they heavily underpay you with ~$72000/year for a newbie. It will be a battle to negotiate for a better pay and ask for H1B sponsorship in the first year. Once H1B goes through, they have an unsaid rule of 3years employment before they could think of GC. So I would highly recommend starting a career at FEV and once H1B or other opportunities come through go for it bidding adieu to FEV. Staying at FEV for over 4-6years will get a promotion to Senior Engineer. The work life balance will always be working north of min of 9 hours/day. All the automotive companies have matched the inflation rate and at FEV guess what they said they realized the inflation and working towards salary increase. The salary increase on a yearly basis is ~1.2 to 2.0% and hardly bonus of $1000 (rarely).

    Interesting

    Pros

Benefits are very good, and you really don't work beyond 45 hours a week.

    Cons

I watched the culture get destroyed after Gary Rogers was fired. I've never worked at a company with such high turnover. It's completely toxic and you are micro managed on every aspect. I've never worked at a place where people clock watch at 8AM and 5PM. Germany runs the show, and you have 0 say in the projects that come your way. You have better chances of eating lunch with the president of the USA than getting promoted. There's employee's who have been there 20 years+, and are basically in the same position they were hired in at. This tells me they don't know how to hire, and don't believe in employee development.
