I worked at FICO full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

New and old technology which allows employees to gain a good amount of knowledge. Managers do not micro manage and allow people to work and get things done.

    Cons

Raises and Benefits were less than stellar leaving little reason for people to stick around. Somewhat high rate of turnover.

    Advice to Management

Improve employee morale to retain employees.

I worked at FICO full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I honestly can't think of any. Use this place as a stepping stone if you have to.

    Cons

The old-timers know every so often there will be layoffs, so why show the ropes to the newcomers? It's mainly the new hires that go, but they do get some of the veterans, so it's co-worker vs co-worker. On a weekend, one of our offshores approached me and asked why the atmosphere was so unfriendly. I assured him it wasn't anything about him, FICO is just ... creepy.

    Advice to Management

Enjoy your huge bonuses (only the top 30% of employees get any pay increase by policy).

I worked at FICO full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had a great manager, and great team. Fun, exciting, and challenging work.

    Cons

Little-to-no training opportunities. On-boarding consisted of PPTs and a quiz. There were 2 previous layoffs to mine before office space was consolidated between Minneapolis and Arden Hills. Former Arden Hills campus had 4 office buildings, by the time I was laid off there were only 2 occupied buildings left - the smallest two, with plenty of empty cubicles to go around.

    Advice to Management

Focus on growing the business and your talent instead of constantly acquiring and absorbing various entities. Encourage innovation with the staff you already have, instead of the acquiring/layoff cycle.

I worked at FICO full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

complex and exciting IT organization at times, good people culture below D-Level

    Cons

sweatshop, cyclical layoffs, horrible go-to-market fails, crappy benefits

    Advice to Management

stop over selling un-sustainable and non profitable ideas to the market, slashing IT to make up for for business line bloat. You are going to be a pariah in the IT job market

    Pros

FICO on the up and up after 2009 shakeup.

    -Challenging sometimes exciting work
    -Unique product development
-Management reasonable in adopting new technologies to fit technical solutions
-Smart, friendly and accessible coworkers you can learn from
    -Stock options on a tear
    -Well positioned for future

    Cons

-Expectations can be high. Those seeking to get lost in the corporate fold wont cut it here.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule (although telecommuting has been limited for arbitrary reasons)
    Reasonable salary
    Good 401k
Opportunity to work on new and emerging technologies, gaining skills that are valuable elsewhere.

    Cons

    Constant in-fighting between business units
Top heavy - far too manager managers, not enough worker bees
IT organization disjointed with extremely low employee morale
Management consistently makes bad decisions without ever consulting the people who will be affected. Communication of these decisions is haphazard and poorly thought out.

    Advice to Management

Talent has been haemorrhaging since 2009. Constant re-orgs are not helping. Define a focus for the organization, and stick with it. Improve communication at all levels. Cull management. Listen to and value your employees.

    Pros

FICO is a good place to recruit talent that is most likely looking to move on.

    Cons

FICO used to be a wonderful place to work and grow but recent cost cutting measures have left the company and rotten shell of its former self. A majority of the skilled and hard working staff have jettison from the company, with more leaving every week.

    Advice to Management

If your goal was a higher turnover rate and less loyalty to the FICO name, then your plan was achieved.

    Pros

Fair Isaac has a good number of talented, dedicated employees. The Arden Hills location is a pleasant place to work, genrally speaking.

    Cons

Employee morale can sometimes suffer due to less than optimal communication from upper management which results in a feeling that the company lacks directional focus.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Realize that the level of performance you receive given staffing levels and compensation is outstanding, and that rewarding your exceptional employees is vital to retention.
