I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Since joining FLIR 13yrs ago, I've been given the tools and environment to really grow in my career. The technology is really cool and the team I have worked with is driven and focused on serving our customers with top notch solutions. My management chain has always been fantastic!

    Cons

FLIR is a fast paced, complex corporate structure; so sometimes it can feel overwhelming. But if you enjoy a high tech, dynamic environment, it can be an exhilarating opportunity.

I have been working at FLIR full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company pays pretty great, has amazing benefits and a fabulous RRSP matching program.
The company as a whole is doing fabulous and exciting things and there is a lot to be excited about.

    Cons

You're pretty pigeon-holed. I'm constantly bored and there is not enough staff to nurture and use their current employees in ways that are outside the scope of their pre-determined job role.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit less structured with job roles. Nurture those in your business who want to work harder and want to do more.

I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing technology and products you'll be proud to say you have a part in making.

Mostly great co-workers and fantastic customers.

Good benefits and OK pay. Generous 401K match and Employee Stock Purchase Programs.

Great community outreach and charitable giving programs.

    Cons

Too many promises, too little staff. Daily fire drills ensue.

HR is in its own la la land. Do you work for the same company the rest of us do? It really does not seem like it.

We're bulking up with executives, lawyers, lobbyists and VPs of this and that. Can we please get a few more boots on the ground?

Changing titles, shuffling responsibilities, and emailing new org-charts does not fix the fundamental problem. Stop reorganizing and please hire a few more people.

Please, can we please stop creating demand for products we can't yet ship? We keep doing it over and over, in every segment. Let's create demand, and delight them with timely deliveries!

    Advice to Management

Worry just a little less about "the street" and just a little more about what's going on internally. We will be truly world-class if we can just get out of our own way.

I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great technology, interesting collection of international customers. Ability to transfer within the company to other departments or division and try new roles (e.g. example of engineers moving to product management). Good civic involvement (charity donations and support for charity events). Excellent benefits. Good compensation. Company and divisions are small enough that you feel like you can impact stock price.

    Cons

Usual high tech development with lack of staffing and too many projects. Company has somewhat of an identity crisis. Management would like employees to fully immerse themselves in their career (think high tech startup) but company isn’t quite there in terms of benefits (e.g. free meals for those working late). The decor for a number of the sites is outdated with nondescript low budget office furniture but fortunately management has recognized this and sites are slowly being updated and open areas/exercise facilities are being built

I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    New CEO
    Amazing 401k match
    4(+) weeks vacation

    Cons

    Incompetent managment
    Focused only on cameras groups
    Nonexistent raises
    No employee retention

    Advice to Management

Start paying your people market value for their work. Bonuses are garbage and based on arbitrary goals not able to be affected directly by employees. No real advancement opportunities. Allow real raises instead of the pennies you allow to be given out.

I have been working at FLIR as a contractor

    Pros

    the people you work with

    Cons

busy work, can get stressful and anxiety ridden

    Advice to Management

think about your temporary workers more. I've worked here for half a decade as a temp and still feel singled out from everyone else.

I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and flexible work schedule. Autonomy to do job and make decisions about my work.

FLIR really cares about their employees health and wellbeing. They provide added benefits with onsite gyms, fitness subsidies, and wellness resources in addition to comprehensive health insurance.

    Cons

Limited headcount and expected to do several jobs. Complex company structure with several business units which can make it challenging to navigate within FLIR.

    Advice to Management

Look at a staffing models before you lose key employees. We provide an amazing product but burnout is inevitable at the rate we are growing if we don't allocate additional resources.
