I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It looks a lot better from the outside. They provide many benefits you don't need and not the ones you would like.

    Cons

It isn't the company it once was. Imagine a company made up entirely of acquisitions and the people acquiring them aren't familiar with the products or the industry. Look at how many acquisitions and then how many sell offs or closures. It's like someone trying on shoes by buying them with someone else's (shareholder) money.

    Advice to Management

    If I knew today what I knew when I joined....I wouldn't have.

I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great innovative, fun to sell products

    Cons

Focus on low cost cameras and direct internet sales are demotivating to sales people's livelihood. Company is based on silos and division and department interaction is poor at best

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to listen to the needs of their field sales people and commercial distributors rather than go to market like a consumer electronic company.

I worked at FLIR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing state-of-the-art IR technology. Fascinating to work on. I was really proud of the work I did there.

    Cons

Company culture was generally toxic. It was a horrible experience that I would not wish upon anyone.

People were just not very nice there. Casual sexism/racism/homophobia was commonplace, also making personal remarks on people's features, such as weight, baldness, or chronic health conditions.

Also, HR does not advocate for employees. When I complained to HR about some of the things I saw, the rep accused me of making it all up and in so many words told me to find a new job. I left shortly after.

    Advice to Management

Make the culture less toxic. People could use diversity/sensitivity/professionalism training. Find HR reps who actually care about employees.

    Pros

Great benefits, most people very friendly

    Cons

No movement upward, pay scale compared to other companies lousy, HR department heads were robots who don't care about people. Senior management bonuses and pay scales are ridiculously high compared to lower level people

    I worked at FLIR full-time

    Pros

FLIR manufactures great products, the technology is amazing. It was great working for a company that helps to keep our nation safe. I worked with some great people; who I looked at as my extended family.

    Cons

FLIR today is not the same company that I started working at many years ago. The biggest problem is the new management regime; they are totally unprofessional and need grooming in their people skills. The lines of communication between management and their employees is non existent. Upper management totes this notion of the 3C's; which is theory sounds like a great approach, but this is not carried through. I was sad to leave but without the support of management it was very difficult to do my job and I felt I had no other choose.

    Advice to Management

FLIR is losing a lot of great employees, these employees are assets that helped build this organization to what is, please take a look at why the turnover rate is high. Their are managers in positions that they are not qualified for; they are not supportive of their employees and have a holy than thou outlook. Mr. Lewis do not build this company for it to fail and have a horrible reputation.

    I worked at FLIR full-time

    Pros

With no leadership or direction coming from company directors, employees get some creative license.

    Cons

Low pay, constant need for overtime work with no compensation policies in place.

    Advice to Management

Try getting ahead of your competitors with a focus on quality, rather than trying to just buy them all up.

I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to work with some very talented individuals on interesting products.

    Cons

Low morale, poor comms/co-operation at management and department levels, which is below the standards of a company of this size and capability. Lacking resources in some key areas, which is causing frustration and stress.
From a local level, HR seems unsympathetic towards employees, incompetent and is neither energizing nor inspiring.

    Advice to Management

Review resource allocations within the corporation. Improve the dynamics of the company and management. Improve the culture of the organisation.
