    Pros

Great place to learn hands-on quickly. Can earn a great amount of money. Always plenty to stay busy with. Flexible work schedule...depending on your manger

    Cons

Engineering is grossly under resourced. They promise that resources will be viable when the time comes and you're left holding the bag. Alot o" old Flir" ways of thinking alive and well in management.

    Advice to Management

Give the engineers the resources they need and stop making engineering the" beast of burden"come layoff, and cut back time. Also don't promise to hire help and then pull the rug out from under the engineering team at the 11th hour.Don't encourage bad management or an unprofessional environment simply because a manager is an asset technically. The best engineer does not necessrily make a good manager.

    I worked at FLIR full-time

    Pros

There are many talented and dedicated people working here to improve the overall quality of the product, but there are also many who do not care about anything beyond a paycheck.

    Cons

There is a short-sighted mindset at FLIR where the goal is near term success and not looking down the road to long term improvement. The culture seems to best be described as "keeping the status quo" instead of cultivating growth and improvement in the workforce.

    Advice to Management

Cut the dead weight and move forward with new employees who are dedicated to quality and improvement as is stated in the company's motto. Yes this means spending more money to get (and retain) those individuals.

    Pros

Innovative Products and good Company to work for.

    Cons

The company could be and do so much more if they invested more into R & D and held managers accountable instead of micromanaging.

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk of the three C's

    Advice to Management

Trust your directors to hire the right people, the process takes way too long

I have been working at FLIR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting products, executive management team seems to have integrity, nice coworkers, good manager who cares, excellent benefits especially 401k match, fair pay, financially solid company

    Cons

not much interaction in the Wilsonville building across groups, lack of innovative energy, horrible aesthetics in the building, spending too much time on admin type tasks and not enough on things that truly matter, not enough information sharing across groups, upper management that micromanages.

    Advice to Management

inject creative energy into every department (not just R&D) if you want to drive innovation, upgrade the building to provide better working environment, listen to employees and incorporate their feedback in meaningful ways, engage with employees more (e.g. recorded quarterly meetings that all employees can listen to).

    Pros

Cool products, easy going workplace, great people and talent.

    Cons

Could be worse but always fire fighting, HR and IT are a joke. No recognition for achievement, poor raises, no management of lazy workers.

    Advice to Management

More resources and management are needed. Reward achievement. Good talent is leaving us.

    Pros

It definitely could be worse. Large enough that they're stable and can generally provide sufficient job security as long as you're part of a core services team

    Cons

Large enough that they're too slow to be dynamic. everyone is set in their ways and extremely resistant to change.

    Advice to Management

I don't have sufficient visibility into the ongoing operations to offer any advice that could be supported from all views relevant to the business
