Punative, abusive work environment, low pay

    Pros

Great and talented co-workers. Good benefits. Good location, subway accessible (near Penn station).

    Cons

Not a good place for expectant mothers and people with families. Poor work/life balance. For example managers give women who are withchild a hard time taking time off for doctor appointments. Management is not willing to work with employees in terms of switching shifts. For example: if you have an emergency or need to go to a doctor’s appointment to avoid burning a personal day and wanted to switch a shift with someone for just one day switching shifts wasn’t permitted. Management hand picks who their golden children are and the rest of the worker bees are underpaid. Extra projects are thrown on to you 2 hours before the end of your shift then expected to be done the next day. You weren’t allowed to stay late for OT either. Always had to defend oneself. Always interrogated and had to have an explanation ready. If you left on-time you were still accused of “rushing”. The manager would state 'you don’t seem like you want to be here.” Inquired about a higher position and was told to re-visit in 4yrs…Really Managers address issues with their staff in interrogating emails going back n forth 8 times then pulled into a side office to be yelled at some more. Would not just stick to work related topics or concerns she was inquiring about; but then transition it into an interrogation. In their mind everyone is replaceable. Very talented staff but they all leave due to the ongoing verbal abuse and unprofessionalism.

It is what you would expect

    Pros

Gives plenty of opportunities for entry/mid-level employees to gain experience. Self-starters can thrive. High turnover means your professional network gets pretty big pretty quick. Were very accommodating and understanding of a medical issue I had that required several weeks out of the office.

    Cons

Low pay (even for tv news standards) Be ready to have your vacation request turned down. They even turned down a shift switch that I arranged so I could move into my new apartment because 'it would set a precedent.' Workplace culture is toxic. They know they can treat you like a mark on a spreadsheet because there will be someone out there happy to replace you. Managers more interested in filling a staffing sheet than fostering talent. Terrible work/life balance but that comes with the industry.

    Needs some drastic changes

    Pros

You'll learn a ton and supervisors aren't afraid to let you learn from your mistakes. People are also very friendly.

    Cons

Absolutely no work life balance. Terrible schedules. Company is very cheap to employees and shows no appreciation. Also there's no room for growth. The hard working, younger employees hardly stay for more than 2 years. Measly salaries and raises.

    Dream job, low pay

Apr 21, 2014 - Production Assistant in New York, NY

    Pros

Great people, exciting projects and one of a kind experiences.

    Cons

Not a great work/life balance - long hours and low compensation. If they paid better it would be worth it, but raises and promotions are kept to a minimal.

    Cons

Literally can't think of a con if your passion is video editing and you want a stable respectful career.

    It is better elsewhere

    Pros

I worked there for a long time, 7+ years. I thought things were great, hey I get 3 weeks vacation plus floating holidays. Management would clash with employees sometimes but overall you got your job done. Lots of innovative stuff to work on.

    Cons

Cost cutting to an extreme, often leaving out the necessities. Zero work life balance. You are always expected to be looking after things. Management who makes unreasonable demands and then has HR back them up. No room for promotion unless you know people. I have seen completely incompetent people promoted up the chain while the real superstars get left behind. Eventually I just got fed up and left. Only then did I realize what a waste this place is.
