I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance and great benefits.

    Cons

Too much favoritism with current senior level management head of NY office, hence the vast exodus of very good employees over the past two years.

    Advice to Management

Treat ALL employees equal and not just those whom you like. Result would be better employee morale and a WIN/WIN for both the company and the individuals working for it.

I have been working at FTI Consulting as an intern

    Pros

    - Learn a lot both technically and about the industry
    - Exposure to a very diverse group of projects
    - The team cares about your growth
    - Pay is very good for interns

    Cons

    - Full-time consultants can work very long hours
    - Hard to give your own input as an intern (That's at most places, anyway)
    - Performance reviews aren't always multi-sided
    - Don't really get the chance to know the people you're working with

"Chummy Club Room Atmosphere - No Diversity."

    Pros

The New York location is central and easy to get to by train.

    Cons

If you are in FLC, it has the worst aspect of Big Four culture... chummy club room atmosphere with more value placed on whom management likes and less on actual talent and work product. There is almost zero diversity after Director level, although barely any to begin with at consultant level.

    Advice to Management

Recognize talent early and nurture it. There is currently a huge flight of talent. It is only a matter of time before FLC breaks up or spins off...

    Pros

Smart people, great experience, fast learning curve, good benefits, exciting case work that is often behind the scenes in WSJ

    Cons

Hours long term can weigh on you so make sure you understand the reality and expectations of the consulting world

    Advice to Management

    Sell work

I have been working at FTI Consulting as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Really great managers, sane work hours and a physically comfortable work environment make this place a pleasure to do document reviews. The managers are very supportive, and encourage reviewers to seek to become certified in the proprietary review software, and to "work up the ladder" to becoming assistant team leads and team leads. We all know that we're "cogs" in the document review industry, but at FTI, they don't treat us as "cogs" -- they treat us as attorneys.

    Cons

Reviewers are not permitted to use cellphones in the review rooms.

I worked at FTI Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Consulting gives a wide variety of industries to try on

    The pay was alright

    Cons

The culture in the CF practice is akin to a frat party: heavily male dominated, women are less likely to be promoted.

Very little communication with top management

Zero work across practices, which presumably is the only potential strength of the company

Corporate finance and econ practices (practices I worked with) are objectively weaker compared with other firms

The payment bonus scheme is poorly designed: it encourages to lump all your billable time together on busy months and to do zero work on non-busy months

    Advice to Management

The comparative advantage of FTI is to put a big network of professionals from different industries. Yet, there is essentially zero collaboration among them. This makes FTI a mediocre firm on all its practices

I worked at FTI Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong mentoring framework, exposed to hands-on learning from industry leaders and experts who enjoy developing.

    Cons

While great strides have been made, Corporate doesn't do a great job of collaborating with senior executives on new Corporate initiatives.
