I worked at FTI Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Consulting gives a wide variety of industries to try on

    The pay was alright

    Cons

The culture in the CF practice is akin to a frat party: heavily male dominated, women are less likely to be promoted.

Very little communication with top management

Zero work across practices, which presumably is the only potential strength of the company

Corporate finance and econ practices (practices I worked with) are objectively weaker compared with other firms

The payment bonus scheme is poorly designed: it encourages to lump all your billable time together on busy months and to do zero work on non-busy months

    Advice to Management

The comparative advantage of FTI is to put a big network of professionals from different industries. Yet, there is essentially zero collaboration among them. This makes FTI a mediocre firm on all its practices

    Pros

In general, a very professional work environment. Colleagues were earnest and friendly.

    Cons

The firm's segments do not collaborate well. Almost a dysfunctional relationship betweeen some groups in the firm.

    Advice to Management

The firm says its committed to collaboration, time to prove it.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Phenomenal team-oriented environment.
Great culture, especially in the Construction Solutions practice. A great group of people who enjoy exchanging ideas and knowledge.
Supportive environment that supports personal and professional growth.
    Work-life balance.

    Cons

Management can get too focused on bringing outside talent rather than developing the existing talent pool.
Compensation and benefits are not bad, but could be a lot better.

    Advice to Management

Encourage out-of-the-box thinking and innovation in your employees.
Focus resources on developing and properly compensating existing talent rather than pursuing outside talent.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Company has great benefits depending upon where you fit within the organization.

    Cons

The company headquarters being located in Washington DC actually creates a greater than average government-mindset. The politics are worse than in most companies but any mature-minded person can navigate them quite easily. Most younger careered individuals may find the environment rather challenging to navigate.

    Advice to Management

Management and Leadership are not necessarily congruent. There are many managers within this company but very few leaders. Because of this, there is nothing I am willing to share with the management because of concerns it would fall upon deaf ears.
