I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting and complicated projects. Ability to work in different industries. Huge range of learning opportunities. Autonomy over work products and deliverable. Great, dedicated, co-workers and peers. Fairly flexible schedule. Good salary and benefits.

    Cons

No leadership. Very difficult to create efficient work process, and build and grow a team, when the Senior Managing Directors (SMDs) and Managing Directors (MDs) do not seem to care. This tends to be a cultural problem throughout the company. SMDs/MDs are put in charge of teams but then do not know how to build, grow or strength the consultants on that team. Very frustrating for business and team oriented people.

The company also lacks sufficient infrastructure to leverage teams, people, and technology across sectors. I believe this is a legacy problem due to FTI's businesses model of growing by acquisition. Since the acquisition model is coming to end and an organic growth model is picking up, this would be a good time to invest in centralized business processes across the company. Updating software, servers, etc...all the things that every employee needs to use.

    Advice to Management

Hire and promote people with business acumen, to help build and grow strong teams of consultants. Measure SMDs/MDs by their ability to meet teams goals and not their own individual goals. This would help foster the growth of the team and the consultants on that team rather than only the SMD or MD. I believe this would also help attract and retain employees, especially younger consultants. Career paths are a must.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people and opportunities for organic growth. Salary and benefits are good. Holly Paul and her department are doing an awesome job in growing culture and people.

    Cons

Considerable amount of turnover ... the people that have been here for 10+ years are the ones sticking around; everyone else seems transient.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the areas that are going to move FTI forward as a competitor globally. Good effort in shifting the silo mentality

    Pros

Great place to work, with very welcoming, trusting employees.

    Cons

Difficult to say as I was only there for a short period. Also, my job title would not be a perspective that could be considered a fair reflection.

    Pros

Compensation and Benefits package. Good hours.

    Cons

Century City office on Century Park East Blvd. - managing directors, and senior directors lack leadership and people skills. Small office and big egos. Unless you came from the acquired company before, you can forget about teamwork and respect.

    Advice to Management

Come out of your offices and get to know the people that are working hard to make your jobs easier. And say good morning to your staff, instead of walking right by them and hiding in your offices!

    Pros

Always busy, a lot of hours,.

    Cons

Management at the office I was employed. The only way to move up was through knowing the right people. It did not matter working from 7-10 every day, the ones who got t climb the ladder were said people who knew the "right" people.
