I worked at FTSE Russell for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits, growth industry, global company.

    Cons

Low pay relative to peer organizations. Management quality questionable, and in some cases miserable. Lousy culture, especially in New York, where the tension is normally so thick it could be cut with a chainsaw. Horrendous technology environment imposed by parent company (London Stock Exchange). Impossible to get reimbursed for expenses in a timely basis, and no corporate credit card policy means that employees... have to fork out thousands on behalf of the company, and then wait forever to get their own money back.

    Advice to Management

Recognize regional differences of business practices - the US market is quite distinct from the UK market, and certain questionable business practices that have worked in the home market are not sustainable elsewhere. Acknowledge that high employee turnover has a cost, aside from direct compensation, and pay competitively. Delegate actual authority - the obsessive controls imposed on mid-level management are... stifling opportunities, both for new client business and for employees' career paths.

I worked at FTSE Russell full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Vacation time: FTSERussell combines both sick and vacation time into a substantial PTO balance Offices: The office space is decorated nicely

    Cons

HR: The Human Resources and payroll department are by far the worst of any company I have ever worked for. Numerous employees are continuously underpaid by the payroll department. Good luck if you need to contact them or have a problem resolved.. Hiring Process: Again this relates to HR, but it took two months from the time of a job offer to start date. Technology: FTSERussell runs everything on an outdated... version Citrix, which is far from reliable. In addition, if you need to work outside of the office, it is nearly impossible, as the speed is slower then a dial-up connection. All applications that FTSE uses are outdated and slow. Project Management: All projects I worked on were rushed through with no thought of what implications rushing through would have to clients. FTSE is more concerned with weighing down the system with more products and indexes instead of fixing their outstanding problems. Senior Management: FTSERussell is very much a top down company. As an employee, your opinion on any matter is virtually worthless. Pay: FTSERussell employees are under paid by approximately 10-20% compared to the rest of the industry FTSERussell is only concerned with their London operations and employees, and this is continuously made very apparent. If you work in the New York, Seattle or Hong Kong office, you will need to continuously adapt to Londons hours of operations to have problems or queries resolved. There is no support across all groups in any other office besides London.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Citrix. Start listening to employee feedback. Fire the entire HR department. Take advantage of having offices across the globe.

I have been working at FTSE Russell

    Pros

Benefits and time off are very good in my country. The offices LOOK nice, but not amazing. Easy to stay employed while doing the absolute bare minimum and not put in thought or effort.

    Cons

Poor management and highly fragmented business units lead to incredibly frustrating problems where people are unwilling and unable to solve or assist. Very slow moving organization. HR and Technology are the worst I've ever seen. Decision making is concentrated at the very highest level. Frequent mergers mean hiring and pay changes are often frozen. The good employees move on from this company leaving poorly... trained and incompetent ones to be your co-workers. It is clear the company does not care about employee or client satisfaction. Management constantly makes it more difficult to provide a quality product to clients and focus entirely on selling and creating new products. Chairs are incredibly uncomfortable.

    Advice to Management

Focus on improvements to the company and products. Stop using Citrix and outdated applications. Spread knowledge across the company and expertise across the globe instead of a concentration in London when you have a 24 hour business.

    Pros

Layback and lets employees just do their job without too much restrictions.

    Cons

UK centric. Not a lot of room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved with non management employees.

    Cons

Micromanaged with information flowing one way only- up Frequent reorganization constantly resulting in downsizing followed by bursts of hiring Human Resources department behind the times with antiquated systems

    Advice to Management

Change your make-up and your culture or you will never develop the labor force to move forward in in industry that is moving forward quickly
