I worked at FXCM full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

After working there for years, if you kiss your upper management, forget your personal life and willing to dedicate every available minute to work overtime, they may send you to travel the world.

    Cons

Extremely political. They promote some of the dumbest people, only because they kiss upper managers' behinds. Promotion has nothing to do with how smart you are. International offices only hire model like girls straight out of college and don't look at actually well-qualified candidates. You have to swallow a lot in order to be able to stay at your job here. Upper management as caught by the CFTC doing a lot of... dishonest practices, playing against clients' interests, therefore the company can no longer do business in the United States. Well deserved, FXCM!

    Advice to Management

Start hiring for brain, not looks! Promote smart people who know what they're doing, not those who please you in front of your face and gossip behind your back. Be honest with your clients and in order to succeed. Value your employees.

    I worked at FXCM

    Pros

Your experience here really depends on your attitude and amount of work you put in: -If you're motivated, career advancement is available -they recognize talent -industry leader so there is much to learn -international company -if you like finance, this is good for you

    Cons

-If you're not motivated, you will stay where you are like me, nothing is handed to you (no set structure or development plan here) -relatively low salary, but bonuses can be high -company is currently rebuilding financially -turnover is high becase it is not a good fit for some

    Advice to Management

Standardize more. Employee experience can be so different from branch to branch and even manager to manager. Lack of standardization leads to lack of company culture. And invest in employees more (attention, financially, and development)

I have been working at FXCM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Great management (very knowledgable) -Co. is top of industry -flat org -strong strategic planning -great learning opportunity for industry (FX) and specific business field (ops, sales, marketing, compliance, etc) -productive workforce -diverse workforce -international for a relatively small company

    Cons

-lack of leadership (managers are great at managing but have limited leadership skills) -lack of company culture (work environment is like the stereotypical office) -lacking in compensation: relatively low pay and ok benefits

    Advice to Management

develop a company culture and invest in your employees (develop internally). Strategically in an external sense, FXCM has done so great.

I worked at FXCM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

+ Great exposure to the forex industry. + Looks positive on your resume, can leverage experience + Small company, so you get personal face time with senior management and the executive team right away + Your peers are very friendly and do their best to make it a great place to work + Senior Management has put the company in a good position to succeed going forward. Every interaction I had with the executive team... was positive. It's too bad that can't seem to filter down to the lower levels.

    Cons

+ Pay is well below industry average, especially after they eliminated the generous bonus structure. The Sales side of things seemed to be more on par with the industry average. + Middle management is awful, with no leadership in place. No feel for their employees and fail to get buy in. + Micromanagement - down to the number of bathroom breaks you take. This will come up in your quarterly evaluation. + Little to... no real advancement opportunities within the United States, despite what they advertise to new employees. I hope you enjoy Bulgaria. Pretty much told to do your job and go home, no development. + Nepotism is rampant when promotions and bonuses become available. You are allowed to have an opinion... as long as it agrees with theirs. Don't speak out in opposition of something if you want to keep your promotion opportunities alive. + High employee turnover - indicative of the terrible management that occurs at the lowest levels.

    Advice to Management

Get back to your roots and take care of your employees. If you want to have productive employees, then treat them like human beings. You are still a small company and should be able to have a great corporate culture, but you have managed to have all the cons of being a public company (red tape, nepotism, unhappy employees) without any of the public company benefits (higher compensation, etc.) You have lost a... significant number of talented employees over the past two years. Each one of them that I have talked to since they left is much happier at their new company. I have never been around a group of lower-level employees that is more miserable than during my time at FXCM.

    Recommends

I worked at FXCM for less than a year

    Pros

Laid Back: My Boss was really laid really understood that I had school and worked with me every step of the way. Location: Was really close to my house and could take DNT to get here People: They are just regular people doing their work, pretty laid back and fun

    Cons

Pay: 10$ for an intern who is in college is not enough People: They don't really welcome the intern and interns just do they work and bounce Work: Too redundant and busy work

    Advice to Management

Build an Internship Program and then hire interns who want to work in operations or any department that you hire in.

I have been working at FXCM full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Team members are friendly enough -They offer the opportunity for people with little to no experience to get their foot in the door of the financial industry

    Cons

-There is no opportunity for growth -Productivity matrix puts extreme pressure on employees and causes them to make mistakes... then the errors are reported and used against the employees -Management can't be bothered to even talk to the employees, much less guide them -Salaries are much lower than the industry standard and bonuses are held over employees' heads -Quarterly performance reviews for associates that... include review of errors and anonymous peer feedback

I worked at FXCM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I met some really great people here who have become lifelong friends. You receive great exposure to the financial markets and have the opportunity to learn about forex.

    Cons

Salary is below average compared to most of the other companies in the same industry. There is low employee morale. There is no job security. The company is very bureaucratic and there is a high level of nepotism. Employees are hardly rewarded for successes, but are immediately reprimanded for even the smallest error. High turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Place more value on one of the most important assets of a company - its employees. Many good employees left on their own due to low morale.
