    I worked at Fabri-Kal full-time

    Pros

Very forward thinking company with regard to thermoformed plastic containers. Their work with GreenWare biodegradable polymers was fun to work with. Lots of time doing various tasks and not always sitting at a desk.

    Cons

Smaller engineering department that you might expect.

    Advice to Management

Provide interns with higher wages to increase competition and attract more applicants.

I have been working at Fabri-Kal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company is very family oriented, even offering the Fabri-Kal foundation for college tuition for employees and their children. Both corporate and a manufacturing facility are local and continue to grow. Leaders serve the employees instead of ignoring them as often seen in manufacturing companies. Departments work together to solve problems and complete projects.

    Cons

Growth is good but it also means they operate at 0-100 at the blink of an eye. If you don't know how to say no to a project, then you will burn yourself out. Employee culture is shifting but there are still some negative Nancy's in mixed into departments with no ownership at all. Same as any company.

    Advice to Management

Review work loads at all levels and continue to push the culture change.

    Pros

Fabrikal had a very clean work environment and great workers and supervision. Very organized but very long hours. It's a huge factory.

    Cons

Long hours, short breaks, crappy vending machines and short staffed. There could of been more bathrooms considering the factory was so huge. The factory was going thru major changes when I left with a new president.

    Advice to Management

Invest more into your employees and don't always listen to the guys who have been there longer because they may of actually been wrong.

I have been working at Fabri-Kal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay is not bad for the area. The low level management and teams are great to work with. Constant stream of new faces.

    Cons

Turnover is crazy leaving an under trained crew. You can be a fast learner and good worker, but experience is crucial and we're losing the long time employees as fast the new hires.Upper and mid level management seem to do nothing but bash the employees and undermine the authority of the lower level management that actually have to lead the employees. Every 6 months or so they change how things are being done and add more redundant paperwork. Safety measures have improved, but there are still some major dangers not worthy of attention such as an open grinder pit. We went more than a week forced to operate a large machine with no way to power it down (even in an emergency such as somebody getting caught in it) without going into the electric box, which few employees are allowed to do. Also rules and safety requirements are largely ignored when violated by higher ups, while hourly employees are fired over technicalities. All in all management makes a terrible atmosphere of fear and frustration.

    Advice to Management

Hold yourselves accountable to the same level as your underlings. They are people not tools.

I have been working at Fabri-Kal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Able to reach/communicate with all levels throughout the company. Family oriented company with a lot of long time standing employees. Always working towards ways to improve overall company and employees.

    Cons

Hard to push change through some times. Can also be a gossipy environment but if you stay out of it it's not too bad. Not a lot of layers (however to counter that most managers are typically good at evolving current jobs to grow with the person to make up for huge level changes which still allows for promotions).

    Advice to Management

Try to listen to more people around you and not just what you want to hear. Also best to act the part if trying to ever shift the culture a certain way.

I have been working at Fabri-Kal (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tuition reimbursement, bonuses, layed back atmosphere on corporate side, steady job with good pay. Easy job on manufacturing side if you know what you are doing. Good work life balance.

    Cons

No empowerment from the leadership, lack of employee development plans, lack of mentor-ship from the management, old equipment, slow to update upgrade equipment and improve processes. Lots of paperwork in manufacturing. Do what you can with what you have attitude.

    Advice to Management

Trust you employees with tasks, delegate instead of telling them what to do. Focus on process improvement and fixing the machines instead of coming up with another form to fill out.
