I have been working at Facebook full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Appreciative company that is actually making a positive impact. Everything we do is dominated by the decisions to do what is "right," in a world where so many companies take the easy way out.

    Cons

Obviously it is a large company with lots of moving parts so sometimes there are efficiency issues, but we are always learning and improving and I think that is the key takeaway.

    Advice to Management

Keep ignoring the haters and focusing on our impact.

I have been working at Facebook full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's exciting to build new products and features that millions of people use around the world.
Fantastic coworkers and fancy offices to hang out in. The company really makes an effort to take care of us.

    Cons

The company grows and moves so fast that it's difficult to keep up with all that's going on.

I have been working at Facebook full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Facebook has some of the greatest perks and greatest challenges to deal with. Facebook and its other social media apps are really THE social platform for world communication. With over 2.2 billion users served on a monthly basis, the work you do here really scales. You can have so much impact on so many lives.

    Cons

It's a lot of work to keep up. Things move SO fast at Facebook that you constantly feel a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out). Things change quickly and you have to always be on your toes.

    Environment
    Foooood!

    Cons

    Career growth
Constant changes (this is more of a pro for me but not for most people)
Management is getting a little out of touch as the org gets more horizontal
    Slight political bias
    So much food

    Advice to Management

Keep investing and growing your current talent so they feel like they truly have futures with the company.

"Mark Luckie Was Right - Facebook doesn’t care about black employees"

I have been working at Facebook full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay, benefits, and perks. But are they worth selling your soul?

    Cons

There is a lack of equity for how feedback and ratings are provided to black employees. Impact doesn’t matter, even if peer reviews during PSCs are phenomental; an inexperienced manager can say you did not meet expectations if they choose to rate the Growth areas higher than your Positive Performance.

While there is not official retaliation, managers can have their friends on a team retaliate against your work and impact. Facebook rates tenure over experience, so if you come in with ten years of senior industry experience, but someone has been in a junior role at FB for four years, that junior person’s feedback will be seen as more valuable than the dozens of thanks or recognition you receive cross functionally from other peers.

Black employees at Facebook are constantly treated as being less-than. Posts in Black@ and other groups have shown that White and Asian peers will assume you are janitors and ask you to clean up after their mess, or will cut in front of you, or other ask if you are a guest regardless if your badge is showing. Black people are Othered at Facebook. Your voice does not matter.

Outside of race, Senior people at Facebook are also leaving in droves. In one org specifically, there is lack of equity in pay, managers are under-trained and under-experienced, and there is no support for career growth.

The external media coverage is often dismissed. Facebook regularly says to press “we are sorry, but we will work to do better next time.” Internally, nothing is done, regardless of how many employees raise their voices on an issue.

If I had to sum up Facebook in one phrase, it’s “shut up and do your job.” If I had to sum it up for black employees, it would be “know your place.” And watch your back.

    Advice to Management

I would offer advice, but you will just ignore it. Nothing will change. And that will be Facebook’s downfall.

I have been working at Facebook full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The moment one steps inside Facebook, they immediately know something is different here. There is a positive energy within the offices and all the employees walking about them. This was the feeling I had six months ago when I joined Facebook, and still reflects my feelings today. These people practice what they preach...they are delivering platforms and tools to build community and bring the world closer together, period.

    Cons

I just wish I had arrived here sooner!
