I have been working at Facebook as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I love Facebook as a social media platform, so that love transferred over to the job.
I was interviewed by a respectful, smart, well-educated individual, and the recruiting company called with an offer the same day.

    Cons

I was sent to a different building to work for a different team. I went in to an orientation where we were told to keep our employment a secret from family and friends, and at work to tell no one at lunch or in the elevators our names, or what floor we worked on, or whose team we were on. I met a couple of people from Menlo Park at breakfast and at lunch who seemed like actual people as compared with the disengaged sullen beings at the Austin office. Over the course of the first week I got grilled over my education( several years of college), skill set ( Excel, Data Viz, Intellectual Property etc), and choice of clothing(conservative and clean) in private. Things got curioser and curioser.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what you are trying to achieve.
Keep an eye on what is really going on on your watch.

    Pros

the abundance of extremely smart people, and the culture of hyper-rationality, open communication, and individualistic freedom.

    Cons

the lack of collective self-awareness, humility, and sense of humor. the cult-like party-line echo chamber, internal propaganda, and kool-aid drinking.

    Advice to Management

nothing i write here will have the slightest effect whatsoever.

I worked at Facebook full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Facebook is an embarrassment of riches. They have everything one needs to take good care of themselves on campus

    Cons

These perks aren't as useful when you have a family at home who you sit down at a dinner table with or leave work and go home to.

    Advice to Management

The company culture changes quickly. I suppose this is not uncommon for a fast growing startup but it was hard to recognize the company I started with when I left. All-in-all it was a good experience.

I have been working at Facebook full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - opportunity for impact. The products we create reach millions (and reaching billions) across the world.
    - culture of taking risks.
    - brilliant people to work with

    Cons

    - lack of documentation or best practices. Facebook still operates like a start-up and the value is on moving fast, with an unintended consequence of no paper trail or documentation of what has or has not been done and whether it worked.
    - communication gaps. A product of the above con, people and sometimes entire teams operate without understanding other teams may be pursuing the same approach or idea.
