I have been working at FactSet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent support from teams, managers, and HR. I have worked in a lot of financial services firms prior to joining and the grass is not greener compared to the flexibility of FactSet. It is geared towards growth and transformation currently which allows innovation to take over. You are given what you earn. Compensation is being evaluated throughout the company as well. There are a ton of recent college grads - 2 to 4 years out of college who think that they aren't compensated enough but have nothing to compare to other than their friends at other firms. Once they leave FactSet they realize how much FactSet really does support them, 401k, maternity leave for 4 moths, paternity for 1 month, free lunch, CFA bonus, stock options etc..

    Cons

It is a time of change- it will take some time to really get to what we know we can become. People fear change but industry employees know this is what will take us to the next level.

    Advice to Management

Take advice from outside hires. Bringing industry knowledge to your table is an asset not a threat

I worked at FactSet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If FactSet is going to be your first job out of college, it is a great experience. But I would not stay more than 2 years.

    - Good 6mo/12mo review process
    - Good perks (free lunch, snacks, etc)
    - Mature release cycles

    Cons

    - No culture at all
    - Way too many meetings
    - Old-school C++ engineers who are now being forced into Web Dev with no motivation to do anything properly or to learn
    - Still stuck on archaic technologies with no real push to catch up to the industry. Things like SharePoint, Twiki, PPT, please get rid of them. Not talking about RPD or VMS.
    - Too many proprietary technologies

    Advice to Management

When I worked there 2 months ago, teams were all over the place; some did it seemingly right, some did not. Some teams did not understand Agile and PDs didn't care enough. Manager and PD bickered on little things for 30 minutes at a time with no real consensus other than "let's talk offline", whatever that means.

Either ditch Agile or develop a form of it that works for FactSet. And more importantly, communicate/train individual teams properly.

Value the importance of a company culture. I didn't realize how important this one was until after working at my new place, but inclusitivity and strong relationships go a long way. Taking ONE day out of the month for a multi team outing would do wonders. When people like each other, they work better with one another.

I have been working at FactSet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free medical benefits, free lunch and stocked pantry

    Cons

Do not offer career development, growth or paths. Do not have performance discussions or periodic check ins. For those that have been working at FactSet for 15 + years they treat us well and will do more for "us" than the new group. They are resistant to change even though they claim to want it. They are the most unorganized, dysfunctional place I have ever worked. They do not believe in retaining talent, they would rather protect a manager that has been there for a long time than protect the employees that actually produce and know what they are doing. Extremely behind the times and are trying to play in the big leagues when they are still in the sand box.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue, learn how to develop employees. Provide a career path, act as if employees matter. If a problem is identified, do something about don't just shuffle stuff around and put the problem elsewhere.

    Pros

The company had a great culture and benefits and paid great

    Cons

I worked at FactSet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a good place for entry level engineers. Folks are helpful. Resource is abundant and management is tolerant and patient to help you get to know the environment, tools and technology to be productive. Will be good enough after a year to know all the needed basics.

    Cons

Factset is a poorly paid tech company, assuming it compares itself to fb goog or linkedin. After 3 to 4 years in the company, you will get used to the less efficient team work and the work is far less fun. A dull place.
